Low ferritin but high folate- can anyone give advicd on supplements

Hi, i had my levels tested, the ferritin came back at 62 (range 41-400) and folate came back at 21.4 (1.5 -20).

The ferritin seems low but the folate is high, would i supplement or would that send the folate too high? Thanks in advance

Don't supplement folate... but, which folate have you been taking? methylfolate or the bog standard stuff?

I don't think (others will disagree) your ferritin is that low, but it is a bit..you could supplement ferrous fumerate or bisglycinate and take it up to 80 ... see if you feel less tired.

Others will suggest you should be halfway in range, but I think your lab is using an old fashioned range. Anyway, we will all agree that you should take supps at present. no b12 reading?

Aspmama - I don't take any supplements at all at present. I had read that ideally ferritin should be between 70 and 90. I will look into the ferrous fumerate etc, thanks

B12 was 344 (range 180-2000)

Then you really do need to supplement B12 - anything under 500 can lead to permanent neurological damage - your high folate may be masking the effects of low B12 (but NOT preventing the damage). I'd try 5000iu sublingual methylcobalamine until your blood levels are around 1000.
