Oxalates, a cautionary tale from STTM.

There seems to be a correlation between things that are good for us, if we are not hypo, but as we are, the goitrogenic and cruciferous veggies, seem to be very very high in oxalates, eg. spinach and broccoli, and almonds, peanuts, anyway the list is there.

Anyone had any problems listed on the website

I steam all cruciferous vegs and soak nuts overnight in salted water then freeze or roast them (without oil)

HI Topaz1, I do my best, just not to eat them at all, seems to be very controversial, some say that steaming takes away a lot of the goitrogenic effect, some say that it does not do much. What do we think, I know that when I ate these veggies, well steamed at Christmas, they made me feel tired the next day, so I just keep away from them. Carrots, celery, leeks, seems to be the best.

Hi langdocienne, I think I might try not eating the goitrogenic veggies just to see if it makes any difference. I always steam them well and cant say I've noticed being tired afterwards. Experiment coming up!
