You could go higher than 1600. I believe 2500 is a maintenance dose. What was your last result for VitD ?

My last result in November was: Serum Vit D 64 nmol/L (75.0-200.0). My gp prescribed 800, but I doubled the dose as an experiment to see what the results will be in February. If I'm not at least mid range, I will be asking for a higher doseage!

If you divide your 64 result by 2.5 it equals 25.6 - say 26. You now have the result in ng/L which corresponds to the chart in the link below. As you can see 50/60 is suggested as optimal so 2500 would be good as maintenance - however you still have a way to go - so 5000IU's through the winter would be good - and then test again in the Spring. Do take VitK2 with the D3 as D improves the absorption of calcium from foods in the gut - and K2 ensures the calcium goes to the bones and teeth.

There is also a chart on that website illustrating levels required to prevent certain serious conditions. Now for some reason they have done that measurement in nmol/L :-)

The vitamin d council recommend 5000 iu for maintenance. It is good stuff. I have managed to reduce all my pain relief by taking lots of vit d.
