I've been found on my recent blood test to be Vit D deficient . My endocrinologist has prescribed me hidroferol 0.266mg caps to take one every 15 days. Since taking the first dose 12 days ago,my stomach has been very uncomfortable ever since, today it feels much better. I'm sure it is the medication. Does anyone have any experience in taking the spray preparation of Vit D and if so wondering what would be the best dose to take daily or at whatever frequency please .my vitaminD 2-5OH level was 18.62 ng/ml (30-100). Thank you for any advice
Vitamin D deficiency: I've been found on my... - Thyroid UK
Vitamin D deficiency
You are taking vitamin D at least 4 hours away from levothyroxine
You could try different vitamin D
Many people find a vitamin D mouth spray works best
Retest vitamin D after 2-4 months and test folate, B12 and ferritin at least once a year
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Many thanks for your prompt reply and advice. I take my levothyroxine, now on a maintenance dose of 88mcg,at 7am and took the Vitamin D at 22:00hrs. I will attach my recent and history of blood test results and will get a coeliac test. I'm keener to go with Vit D mouth spray, asked about it in the first place but Dr not familiar with it,so recommendedthe twice monthly tablet .
I don't understand why you were prescribed the drug when it can easily be supplemented. Has a related medical problem been identified with you - or is it a case of medics only trading in drugs, whatever the consequences?

Thank you for your reply. I live in Spain and although I'm not in the sun all day long I think I am in it more than if I were living in UK. I am going to have a blood test for coeliac to see if this is why I'm so deficient in Vitamin D. I have Hashimotos/Ords thyroiditis, diagnosed a few months ago. What did you mean by it being easily supplemented rather than taking that drug?
hidroferol is a drug but vitamin D levels can be increased with supplements instead (without side effects generally). I note Jbrooke is similarly confused. Tbh I didn't realise there is a drug for vit D, seems crazy to me.
Sorry, probably helpful to mention I am also osteopenic ,that may have influenced the hidroferol to get more Vitamin D into me at a higher level quicker 🤔
Thanks but neither suggestions make sense to me (other than maybe Spanish medics are even more drug-focused than elsewhere!). So supplementation could still be a (better) option for you, particularly with sides effects experienced. Suggest you ask doctor and, if not clear reason, consider it.
How come you don’t just take Vitamin D3 in supplemental form? Most people just take a vitamin for D3. Just curious. The vitamin form can be taken with food too, to curb stomach upset.
Thank you for your reply. I just went with the advice of the Dr. I will go over to the mouth spray, less chance of interaction and tummy upset then
You are confusing calciferol (this hormone) with colecalciferol (supplement).
The reason you would take the former is that it is the form of vitamin D which is available in the blood stream to the receptors on cells within hours of ingestion.
Cholecalciferol takes at least two weeks to be converted into calciferol and so you could die of an active infection before it had any efficacy.
This is incredibly important to understand because lacking this could lead to a fatal mistake when dealing with an emergency situation where an autoimmune system is in meltdown and blood vitamin D levels are dangerously low. Simply put, it is too late to be taking a supplement! Most COVID-19 fatalities would have been averted if the medical establishment understood the action of vitamin D on the immune system and that calciferol will have immediate efficacy during an extreme immune system response.
For scientific proof, look up the published Spanish hospital blind-trial paper from a few years ago where COVID admissions were given a placebo or calciferol immediately. Out of 50 patients, only one was admitted to ICU and none died. This trial was discredited by big Pharma because it negated the need for vaccine development, with all the risks we have realized now.
Best not to comment if it is dangerous to do so.
You will need to retest thyroid levels again in another 2-3 months
Last test was only TSH and Ft4
Previous test showed low Ft3
Approx how much do you weigh in kilo
Your PTH test result in April was 30
(Parathyroid levels test);
No range on result but looks high
This might be why you were prescribed hidroferol
You should have vitamin D, PTH and calcium levels tested together
You better ask endocrinologist before taking any vitamin D supplements

RAYALDEE is a vitamin D3 analog indicated for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in adult patients with stage 3 or 4 chronic kidney disease and serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels less than 30 ng/mL.

Thank you again for your prompt reply. I'm attaching the blood results from April that show the PTH range. Endocrinologist doesn't want to see me for 6mths now, post bloods then too!
ok so PTH not over range
Likely fine then to supplement vitamin D
Once you have had coeliac blood test, assuming it’s negative……recommend trial on strictly gluten free diet
Many people find gluten free gives noticeable reduction in symptoms…..or is absolutely essential
