Hi all I have Hashimotos and am taking Nutri Thyroid and Nutri Adrenal Extra. I also need to take various vitamin supplements and at the minute I'm taking a generic multivitamin tablet but I'm just wondering if its better to take separate vitamin tablets or if there's a particularly effective multivitamin brand? Any suggestions/comments?
Why do you say you 'need to take various vitamin supplements'? Have you been tested for any of your minerals or vitamins?
Multi-vits are for healthy people, there's not enough of anything in them to address a real deficiency. They also tend to contain things that you Don't want, like calcium and iodine.
Far better to get tested and find out what your really need and how much, and treat the deficiencies indivitually. So, if you haven't already done so, start with
vit D
vit B12
folate
iron
ferritin
selenium
If you post any results you obtain here, then we'll be able to better advise you.
Hoop-la, you should have ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate tested to determine whether and how much to supplement. It's generally ok to supplement 200mcg selenium and 1,000mcg vitamin C without testing.
If your GP won't test you can order private tests from Blue Horizon, Genova and City Assays via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Hi Greygoose and Clutter, Dr Peatfield suggested I take iron, calcium, magnesium, vit. D and vit. C. I'm just taking so many of the Nutri tablets I hoped I could get away with a multi vit., but suspect you are right Greygoose that they're not very effective if you have a real deficiency. I doubt my GP will agree to any more blood tests, so I will have to start saving for more private tests or maybe put them on my Christmas pressie list !
