Sounds good. If you email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org and pass on his name please.

DonT celebrate too soon. The price of 5 mg of liothyronine isn't a quarter of the 20 size. Your doctor might get really iffy about his budget. There is already alot of grumbling about the price of the 20's which currently stands at around the Β£200 mark for 28, but the smaller tablets are not even listed in the drug tarrif.

Easy for the endo to instruct the doc, but the doc doesn't have to obey.

Sorry :-(

Costs (to NHS) of several forms of liothyronine extracted from the July 2015 Prescription Cost Analysis.

Drug Name              Cost per 28 tablets / capsules

Liothyronine Sod_Tab 20mcg       152.18

Liothyronine Sod_Cap 5mcg       89.71

Liothyronine Sod_Cap 2.5mcg       90.74

Liothyronine Sod_Cap 10mcg       157.82

Cytomel_Tab 5mcg              156.53

Cytomel_Tab 25mcg              31.74

The first line will be almost entirely MercuryPharma Liothyronine.

5 microgram tablets/capsules work out very much more expensive than 20 microgram. It looks very odd that 25 microgram Cytomel seems far and away the least expensive. (If I got my figures right!)

Wow. Sounds like a keeper. Mine wont even prescribe it.

My Endo said he didn't even like me being on 60mcg as 50mcg was the maximum anyone should be on. so that's brilliant for you. He also said that although he agreed for me to have 60mcg it was entirely up to my GP if he would fund it. So flash your eyelashes at your GP

Good luck with getting it, my endo prescribed it, but GP surgery refused it. I bought one pot of 28 tabs 20mcg, and am currently trialling adding it to Levo.

I really don't blame the GP surgery for refusing to prescribe it at such a ridiculous price. It's like the NHS are being held to ransom by the drug companies! MariLiz

Good luck! I hope it helps you to feel better. Not sure it's doing anything for me, although, interestingly, my tinnitus seems to have improved. MariLiz x😌
