Seeing endro advice re sex hormones please

Hi seeing new endro in a few weeks. Was advised to get progesterone oestrogen and testosterone tested. I was wondering if anyone could explain what relevance these have to the thyroid if any. Also because I have no womb ovaries etc a GP I saw also recommended having these tested recently when I had terrible infections in vagina bladder and poss kidney. Only have one kidney so need to be careful. I was too ill to take in what she was saying about why they needed to be tested. Grateful for any insight. Thanks Maggi

As they age, women's progesterone levels begin to fall more quickly than their estrogen levels, creating “estrogen dominance”. If left uncorrected, this imbalance of progesterone and estrogen progressively worsens over time. Ostrogen dominance causes the liver to produce high levels of a protein called “thyroid binding globulin”, which binds the thyroid hormone and decreases the amount of thyroid hormone that can be assimilated into and utilized by the cells.

Thanks for this NoMore T3 I am wondering if this applies to me as I have no ovaries womb etc and was told back when I had hysterectomy that I would not need to have progesterone ever just oestrogen which is in contrast to what you say. I have trouble believing anything doctors say due to past bitter experience.!

That's because the powers that be think the the only reason to give progesterone is to stop uterine cancer, not because it is an essential hormone.

That does not surprise me at all. Story of my life! Thanks for the info.

This gives some ranges toward the bottom, Maggimay. Maybe they'll give you an idea what to expect. All hormones are related to each other. stopthethyroidmadness.com/l...

Thanks. Is it something I need to do something about re asking docs. Cheers Maggi

The level of SHBG and reverse T3 are best predictors of how hypothyroid your body (meaning cells and organs) might be but obviously they would not do rT3 and usually have no clue about SHBG so your results based on pituitary TSH will be 'normal' but you will continue suffering when your body is starved of T3. All sex hormones will be still produced in very small doses by adrenals when you do not have uterus and ovaries and the balance is still important especially when oestrogen tend to be overproduced by other tissues or comes to the body from outside sources.

Thanks so much Heloise. Will do. Well get OH to doing am useless. Sleepless and worrying about going to Endro now! Anyway have now read it. I am still unsure if not having womb and ovaries means l won't have the oestrogen problem. I do wonder if I might need testosterone and progesterone. I need something for sure! Thanks again

Sadly not necessarily. Oestrogen is also produced by body fat and by conversion of other hormones.
