Is it normal for an Endro to want a copy of your prescription?

Just a bit worried over my Endro appointment, when I saw an Endro last year I never had to show my presciption but with this one I do. I am concerned he/she will stop my T3, although it causes problems, it does help and I couldn't be without it. They prescribe it in 2.5mcg capules and i know it can not be purchased.

Maybe I should cancel the appointment, as it could make things worse by going, it did with the last endro.

Any thoughts/ advice would be appreciated.

Best wishes

Hi Normally when ever seeing a consultant, they like to have a list of the meds you are on and strength, just so that they can look after you correctly. All mine do ,even ones that would never alter my drugs.

Hello Jackie,

Thanks for info, Does the endro have the power to stop the medication. My GP said she prescibes what the endro tells her to. I know how keen they all are on Levo, that was dreadful for me, If they do stop it I will have no medication to take. I don't know if it will help or make things worse for me

Please don't worry overly - you will be able to deal with it. Lots of us have issues with our endo/gp prescribing.

Hello puncturebicycle,

I am very worried, it is so important for me to have T3 and I can't buy it in the tiny doses they prescribe. I asked for the appointment to see the endro to see if they would let me try an NDT but I could make things worse for my self my going, especially as I had a big falling out with the last endro.

Hi They can but unusual. Some Endos will not prescribe T3 and are totally against it. I would phone Endo`s sec before you go and ask. If no then cancel and find a better one and ask for GP`s referral again. The head of the college,Prof Jayne Franklin will not allow any at her hospital! GP is more or less legally bound to obey the consultant, as all petrified of legal problems! So called defensive medicine. It causes me lots of problems

Best wishes,

Jackie

Thats a really good Idea, I will ring and find out. I am looking to try one of the NDT's as T3 may just not be for me. Thank you Jackie

Hi For NDT you usually need a private Endo, they do work in the NHS but not so governed by protocol. I always find my consultants, many, by looking on hospital lists for names,. the the private hospitals, often more info on there. Then a lot have their own c v on the WEB. Then phone their secs and fish. Good listener most important thing.Only then ,I ask for a referral.

I hope that helps.

Maybe she thinks you buy it yourself? I think it's a bit unusual to request to see the prescrip. Why doesn't she ring your GP?

I would just take a packet/box, whatever, from the pharmacist and show that to her. Most times now, if you use the electronic system at the pharmacist/doctor, we don't see our prescriptions at all.

Hello Shaws,

It does seem strange to want to see my prescription - I would have thought they would know what I was being prescribed. I don't know who i am seeing, the letter said just to come along and I will be seen by who is available at the time. Maybe I should cancel it, They would have reason to stop the T3 because of the problems it causes me, but it does help as well, but they want everyone on Levo and that was terrible for me, I couldn't go back to taking that.

Best wishes

If you are doing o.k. on T3 then you don't need to see an Endo. Most of them will have us on levo come what may.

Hello Shaws,

I am not doing well on T3, I can't really tolerate much and I get nasty symptoms but If I don't have any then I can't seem to function. I wanted to see an Endro to ask to try an NDT but I think you are right, it's Levo & beta blockers and a telling off for taking HC and for questioning the blood tests. I will cancel it
