I am being driven mad by iching. It is moving around my body currently onthe top of my left foot. It has moved from between my right toes and has affected my right nipple, my waist, my back, the palms of my hands and the flat of my foot.It is traveling around and as bad as any excema I have ever had. Could it be a reaction to T3.it has been getting worse over the last few days.
Please research using petroleum jelly all over for extended period of time. It is PETROLEUM and will be absorbed into your body after prolonged use. I remember years ago when I had babies and the Dr. said to never use petroleum jelly on them to preventing diaper rash...as so many mothers use to do. He said it is absorbed through the skin. I have found aloe vera to work for itching due to insect bites and sunburn. If it is due to something you ingest like T3 then try an antihistamine an hour or so before taking the T3. I hope you are able to find relief soon.
Thank you.The problem seems to be that it keeps moving. It is in my ring finger at the moment and my left shoulder. I think I would need a bath in aloe vera and as lovely as that might be I am not sure I can afford it. I do love th estuff though and have some in my cupbard. I could keep chasing all the itches around.
Oh dear, that sounds awful. I had a dreadful itchy/crawling sensation on one hip every single night for over twenty years. Aloe Vera was the only thing that helped. Until thyroid medication!! Weirdly that was the cure! Have not had it for nearly a year now but I still keep the tube of Aloe Vera by the bed for occasional itching or irritation.
I’ve heard that putting a small cup of baking soda in the bath can relieve eczema-like itching. Could that help do you think? I think you’d need to moisturise afterwards though. Perhaps with Aloe Vera? As you can see, I’m a big fan!! My husband used it successfully for a troublesome itchy foot which was keeping him awake at night. Perhaps, as you say, chasing the itch around is the only answer for the moment. I really hope it improves soon!
Try an antihistamine an hour before your t3 and see if it reduces the travelling itch. Could well be fillers in the t3 and you need to change brands. Worth a try
I have found virgin cold pressed coconut oil applied to my skin helps. It is more natural than moisturising lotions or Vaseline. I add tea tree and peppermint aromatherapy oils to mine (10-20 drops of each per cup of coconut oil - when I first started I used 5 drops of one aromatherapy oil only to test for any adverse reaction).
What ever you use for the first time patch test and leave for 24 hours to make sure it does not make matters worse.
I also sometimes take antihistamine before eating or taking my levothyroxine
I stay clear of meat, wheat, milk, sugar and alcohol which aggravate my health generally. I eat mostly fruit and vegetables raw or lightly steamed plus eggs, fish and kefir in moderation.
Stress appears to be the main trigger to setting my itching off so I dial down stress inducing situations and make time to meditate and do other relaxing activities.
Just some suggestions which I thought might help you.
It might be going way out on the limb but I’m going to suggest doing things to help the liver cleanse. One of the easiest things to do is to drink hot lemon “tea“ - made with preferably organic lemon juice in about 1 tablespoon to 8 ounces of not boiling but fairly tepid water - like you might make any tea . Most of us that are hypo thyroid are that way because of digestive problems and the liver can get backed up for lack of a better description. I begin taking a supplement that was supposed to help with Hashimoto’s and immediately caused a rash and itching . When I spoke to the makers of the supplement they immediately said I should stop taking it and start a liver cleanse . I did that and the itching went away. Of course I would not want to advise to stop taking the T3. But you can help the liver with the lemon juice tea. This liver cleanse has been suggested by many health food gurus including Dr. Oz. You might also try if by any means possible eating only vegetables for 10 days - increasing water consumption as in 2 ti 3 quarts per day - likewise for 10 days. More and more research is coming out as to how liver toxicity is somehow related to thyroid disease - and many times is dealing with a very toxic load of various chemicals and pesticides and who knows what else from our water supply and our food supply. Try to make sure that your water is filtered or perhaps you have a way to access clean spring water or other sources of water that are not chlorinated. Any of these suggestions may help just enough to relieve the liver of one more thing that it doesn’t have to clean out of the body system.
The skin is just another organ and our body is made in such a wonderful way that when one organ is overloaded another one will pitch in and try to help. Looking for the root cause will permanently end the itching. What else have you added to your diet other than the T3? How long after you were taking the T3 Did the itching begin? What is the source of the T3 is it natural (dessicated pig Thyroid) or synthetic? These are some of the questions that may help you get to the root cause ( you absolutely could be allergic to something in the T3 to the source but there are different sources of T3) in the meantime the water and lemon juice may help.
Please share the relief / what works when you find it. You will find it - we have many helpers here!
Thank you . I will get some organic lemon juice. My skin is not great at all. I am aged 54 and have acne would you believe,an Endo told me it was nothing to do with my liver when I asked so I really ought to take that as confirmation that my spots are part of my liver needing some help.
i notice that some of the people who have replied to your question on itching, are wondering if it's the thyroid medication which is causing it. I have to say that I itch intensely on my head, up my nose, mostly, but in all sorts of other places, too, and I'm not on any kind of thyroid medication at the moment. It drives me slightly mad, to say the least. Not sure this is much of a consolation to you, though.
Itching can also be caused by an overgrowth of yeast which most often occurs in the ears and throat in the nose anyway that’s where we notice the itching. It’s in can also because when the yeast over growth is being killed or perhaps when eating or taking something that’s killing it and when the overgrowth is dying - The result can be a feeling of intense itching. These kinds of things most often occur after a round of antibiotics‘s. Probiotics and caprylic acid can kill yeast and I’m sure there’s others out there that will have other remedies for yeast overgrowth. There’s many proprietary blends out there in the health food world that can kill yeast overgrowth. Things like candida clear and other names that sound like that. I continue to recommend the 10 day jumpstart wherein we reset the gut and eat nothing but vegetables and water and lemon juice for 10 days - it’s amazing how many things can clear up. Not to mention losing five or 10 pounds!
