I have had a few episodes of this bad taste in my mouth when my thyroid seems unsettled wondered if anyone else has experience of this. I have only had this since I had radio iodine treatment and went from over active to under active.

Silverlady, I get intermittent taste disruption for 3-4 weeks where a lot of foods taste sour and tomatoey, particularly anything in sauce or gravy, but 'dry' foods taste fine. It started a few months after my second RAI and continues despite levels being stable for more than 18 months.

Thank you for your reply Clutter. This bad taste thing is awful I feel like I'm going rotten!! I take 75mcg of Levo and Omeprozole for a hiatus hernia sometime ago when I had this problem and saw a doc she thought it could be a side effect of the Omeprozole. I dread going to the doctors cause I feel like I'm going round in circles. I was referred to an endocrinologist in April and I'm still waiting for an appointment.

Silverlady, I read a post this morning where a member had a bad taste in her mouth when taking Omeprazole and it resolved when she stopped taking it. Perhaps you could ask to try a different PPI. She used chewing gum to mask the taste.

Thanks for that. Would you know of something that would be as affective as Omeprazole? What does PPI stand for?

Silverlady, Proton Pump Inhibitor. I don't know what alternatives there are. Your pharmacist or GP can advise.

I seem to recall reading that PPIs can affect absorption of essential vitamins/minerals such as B12, so be aware of that, as your thyroid needs B12 (amongst other things) to function properly.

I get this, although I think it has lessened since starting on levo. To me, it's like I've swallowed a manure heap! Very unpleasant.

Thanks for your reply Legion. It is very unpleasant. I am on Levo 75 mcg daily. I take Omeprozole for hiatus hernia doctor has said it could be a side effect from that. It's such a minefield when taking other tablets.
