I have had bouts of mouth ulcers for years despite Vit D B12 supplements and T3 only - adcortyl paste was my favourite remedy as it would vanish them over a couple of treatments. I now find it is discontinued - any ideas welcome.

Does anyone have a recommended mouth ulcer treatment?
Hi
I bought l Lysine for my son. It is supposed to be good for herpes virus and I think mouth ulcers can be herpes too? Now I have to figure out how to get him to take it

Just saw the message below. I know nothing about the poster, or the suggested site.
There has been a problem obtaining Adcortyl in Orabase (Triamcinolone Dental Paste) for some time, it is however available again as a generic from the Special Medicines company Hard To Find Medicines, just send them your NHS prescription, it arrives back 2 days later, with no additional charge, other than your prescription charge, if you pay. If your exempt, its completely free.
Its a great service

In recent years I've found that clove bud essential oil (just a dot on the little finger and rubbed on the sore area) helps a lot for problems in the mouth and gums. Jane x
Will try this one thank you, Jane x
Sarah, if you're susceptible to mouth ulcers do not use Colgate products xx
I too found Adcortyl the best (and only effective) treatment, but my pharmacist told me that it was only available to patients on chemo. Maybe this was due to a manufacturing problems and therefore limited stock - no sure. I will definitely ask my GP for off a prescription and give Rod's suggestion a go - thanks Rod
Thank you all so much - went out for a walk and returned to your super replies. Next step buy clove oil or lysine , ask GP for prescription and check out tricky to source meds and stick to flouride free aloe sensitive toothpaste with dentaforce mouth wash - what a super site
This may or may not be relevant but some years ago my dentist advised me that my mouth ulcers were probably due to anaemia and that I should ask my GP for a blood test. GP grumbled that the world is a funny place when dentists could diagnose medical problems but ordered the test anyway. Sure enough I was anaemic, got an iron supplement and ulcers cleared up! Maybe you need to get iron levels checked too.
Ave you considered a food intolerance?
I get a lot (and I am wondering if it is food related like my abdominal pain) but I find a product from Temple Spa works wonders - I think it is called All Mouth.
I was a martyr to mouth ulcers for years and I had all kinds of theories, it was after my partial thyroidectomy that it first started. I used to blame my menstrual cycle, in fact anything that occurred to me at the time. I read somewhere that they are a form of coldsore - but I have never had coldsores and do not have Herpes Simplex.
I suddenly realised that whenever I ate oranges it would happen. I have stopped eating oranges and don't get mouth ulcers any more....but then again I am 68 and don't have periods any more - no, it's defintely the oranges! I sometimes eat an orange just to see how things are and sure enough along come the ulcers. One thing I have realised though, is if I eat organic oranges it does not happen. So it must be something they spray onto the oranges. So, in a way, I was wrong, it's not the oranges.
I just use a salt mouthwash if I weaken and eat an orange, it works just as fast as anything you buy and is much cheaper.
My husband suffered with mouth ulcers for years and years. No blood tests or GPS could ever tell him why. By default he went gluten free when I was diagnosed with hypoT and told to avoid gluten - guess what - in 2 years he's hardly had a mouth ulcer whereas he used to have several at any one time.
It's usually a vitamin B6 deficiency. If you're looking to buy some B6 buy 'pyridoxil-5-phosphate', this is the 'charged' version of B6, which most people can metaobolise better. Other causes could be a chemical sensitivity to something you maybe ingesting (le.g. chemicals in non organic foods and toiletries).
I was referred to the dental hospital with my mouth ulcers and for me they seemed to be related to low ferritin. As a result I was meant to take iron and have regular blood tests - somehow this never happened pre hypo but now I am keeping an eye on things and am taking iron regularly. I haven't had a mouth ulcer for quite a while now
Thank you for great replies ;
Outcome with GP : He said no to prescription for Adcortyl Paste saying its not available anywhere despite my telling him (gently) re Rod's advice. So I have a prescription for Sodium Succinate 2,5mg x20 - 1@ 4 times daily.
He also said autoimmune link and probably not Vit D B or Iron on the grounds I am taking supplements for these. ( Could still be too low though couldn't I ?)
Re food I don't tolerate citrus at all and try to avoid it - haven't tried gluten free as am dairy free and have other sensitivities so didn't want to add any more restrictions if possible but may have to explore this one.
Will collect prescription today and may keep it in hand for acute bouts and will try out other suggestions on the couple I have at present - it can be much worse than at the moment so time to trial.
Thanks Folks
