hi everyone! Strange question- but has anyone experienced this before?? I have a "yucky" taste in my mouth and it's quite difficult to describe it. It's a bit like bile but not quite as strong. I've had my check up with my dentist and he says my teeth and gums are fine. Could it possibly be related to b12 defficiency or thyroid issues??

Wales, I periodically get taste 'dysfunction' where hot food in sauce/gravy and soups taste unpleasantly sour and tomatoey. It can last for 3 or 4 weeks before normal taste resumes. Luckily it doesn't seem to be a winter thing as salads and cold food tastes fine. The dysfunction is only evident when eating, not at other times. It's only happened post RAI so I half assumed it might be to do with that.
I've been getting a bad taste too and my breath and gums are ok wondering what causes this it started before I started b12
Pet-lamb -A year ago I had a really really salty taste in my mouth for 3 weeks. My GP said that it was probably a sinus infection and that all the "gunk" from the infection was dripping down the back of my mouth. Ever since, off and on, I've been having this awful taste in my mouth, sometimes salty / bitter / metallic. however, by now I am convinced that it has got something to do with my thyroid or my B12 levels. I am currently not on any medication for these. My B12 was up this time from 212 to 289. What was your b12 levels before you started treatment for you b12 levels?
When my hypothyroidism was bad I had acid reflux. I didn't suffer from heart burn, but I had a horrible taste in my mouth, alternating dry mouth/very watery saliva and eventually my dentist noticed I was getting enamel damage. My GP didn't believe me...but still prescribed omeprazole, which didn't do much good. So I chucked the omeprazole, worked on getting my thyroid levels up, and now the problem seems to have resolved.
Hi, I get a lot of "odd" tastes varying from salty (main one) to extreme sweetness and lots of nasties. Recently I've started using a vit. b12 spray and on reading your post realised that the "odd" tastes not so obvious .. A lot of folks seem to think b12 somehow involved, so maybe worth a try. B12 water soluble so will be excreted if not needed. Perhaps an unnecessary expense though! - good luck.
Could it be gut issues? I know many cases of 'bad breath' come from the stomach rather than mouth. Not sure if this is still the case if it's a 'taste' in your mouth though.
I have had a bad taste sensation for the past two years. The taste varies in nature (often salty, sometimes metallic or even sweet) and intensity but never goes away.
Dentist has told me my oral hygiene is A1 so this is not the cause.
B12 was tested last year at 485 and I also had an Active B12 test at St Thomas' hospital which returned a "replete" status - i.e. Within normal reference range. I started to take sublingual B12 anyway but this hasn't affected it at all.
I'm yet to be diagnosed with low thyroid function (all the usual nonsense about "normal" blood results) but did test positive for the faulty gene when I took the DIO2 genetic test - so looks like I am a poor T4 to T3 converter. Both my mother and grandmother were hypothyroid and my grandmother completely lost her sense of taste. I think think there could be a link between disgeusia and hypothyroidism - but medics don't recognise it.
