..My name is Brenda from North Carolina. I also take Cytomel 25mcg. I have to take 2/day. I was taking 2 + 1/2 with 1 Synthroid. I am still having a problem with losing my hair & doctor will let me know tomorrow about another dosage- of what I don't know. This is so depressing for me. When will this madness end! I hope we'll both see improvement soon!!!! bhohstadt

Hello bhohstadt,

Sorry to hear that you are still having so many problems.

An inadequately medicated thyroid condition can have far reaching effects and make you feel very ill. Losing hair is a common symptom of a hormone inbalance.

As previously asked by other members, if you post recent thyroid hormone blood test results complete with ranges ( numbers in brackets), members will be able to advise. Also please advise the exact dose of each thyroid med you are presently taking.

From your previous posts you seem to have had several changes of meds and doses. Thyroxine takes up to 6 weeks to saturated the whole body and symptoms may then lag behind good biochemistry by up to another 6 - 8 weeks.

All thyroid meds require optimal Vit B12, Vit D, folate and ferritin to be utilised in the body. Get your doctor to test these and again, if you post recent test results, members will comment.

Hi, welcome to our forum

We have to be on an optimum dose of thyroid hormones for us to recover our

health and we all respond to different doses.

Have you had a recent blood test, i.e. TSH, T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3 plus Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate? If not ask for these and leave approx 24 hours between your last dose of hormones and the test which should be as early as possible and fasting. Get a print-out of your blood tests, with the ranges, and post on a new question for members to comment.

Hair thinning/loss is quite common until we are on optimum medication. I found Nizrol 2% shampoo helpful in that it contains ketonazole and follow the instructions carefully. After - I think about 4 or 6 weeks treatment, you can continue once weekly every one or two weeks.

We do need to be on an optimum of hormones and our TSH around 1 or below or suppressed (although doctors might believe differently but they aren't suffers).
