You need to slow down and get the stress out of your life.
High cortisol levels are both inflammatory and catabolic and can cause thyroid problems and interfere with meds working. It can also cause low serotonin & melatonin levels, depression, anxiety, carb cravings, immune suppression, altered glucose metabolism, high blood pressure and disrupted sleep patterns.
Eat well, reduce exercise, leave time for relaxation, supplement vitamin deficiencies, get enough sleep, ensure your throid meds are working and hormones are balanced. If you leave your cortisol levels high, they will either become resistant or burn out and then recovery time can be years.
Venlafaxine is prescribed for a lot of symptoms that could be caused by high cortisol.
Anti depressants will really mess up your bodies chemistry, but usually lower cortisol, i thought. Just bad news. Look up Cushings and see if you have any of the symptoms. If your Thyroid is not optimally treated, it will cause both high and low cortisol, as the Adrenal Glands need t3 to function properly.
