I have a few questions and would very much appreciate your replies ..
1. I am on 1.5 grain of Nature Throid and am still feeling the hypo symptoms - tired , hair loss etc .. Should i venture into another brand like Thyroid S or Erfa .. maybe a different brand may suit me better ?? Or should i take my medication twice a day .. morning and afternoon ....
Please recommend if you had more success than me with other brands .
2. Has anyone tried Thyromin from Young Living ?
3.I have had my thyroid removed via RI - and I am due to go for testing in a week - what test should i request for besides full thyroid panel - should i ask for iron / ferritin and iodine ?
4. Should i test for TPO ?
5. Should i test for Adrenal Glands - i live in the UAE - so i have to do this online , please recommend a good lab that will be able to do this ?
thanks lots everyone ..

Hi, If you have no thyroid gland then you will need a full replacement dose... Was reading somewhere yesterday that on average, this is between 3 and 5 grains.
HAve you tried increasing your dose.... By half a tablet every few weeks? The idea is that you increase, hold the dose for a week or so and then increase again until you feel better or if you feel over edicated, you drop back to your previous dose. Some people advocate holding a dose for 5 or 6 weeks, some for only 2.
Do you have Graves' disease? If this is the reaon for your thyroid removal, you may find that you need more t3 as your body will e used to larger amounts.
The hormones in NDT are said to be bound, not free so taking them in one dose is often ok. Everyone is different though. I take my 3 grains at thing at night.
Genova do adrenal saliva testing, but no idea if they have a lab near you. If you deal with them via pst or courier you eed to get your samples there within a day. Check their website for more ifo. Links to testing are here....
It would seem that raising your dose is reasonable in your case. I wouldn't split the dose unless you feel a rush (T3) shortly after but 13 or 14 mcgs. is a small amount in your nature throid. If your symptoms feel worse in two weeks after the raise, you should consider adrenal testing.
I am sorry you have had your thyroid gland knocked out with RAI.
How long have you been taking Nature-throid? It suited me very well. Whatever NDT we take it has to be at an optimum level to make us feel well. Some people need much more than 1.5 gr which is approx 150mcg levo. It is trial and error and if you raised your dose by either 1/4 or 1/2 grain every two weeks to see if you have an improvement. Any overstimulation i.e. too hot, too fast pulse, drop down by the amount you increased.
Nature-throid has been in use for 75 years and has never been inconsistent in its T3/T4 and many are happy with it. Of course, there has to be exceptions. Whereas levothyroxine has been recalled many times.
I would give Nature-throid a longer test-drive and don't get too anxious as sometimes we have to give the hormones a chance to settle. We can change too often before our body has a chance to get used to the doses and we might never reach an optimal dose which makes us feel well again.
Please test your Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, iron, ferritin and folate as sometimes deficiencies in these can also cause problems. We need them towards the top of the range.
No a T3 higher than T4 doesn't matter. T3 is the Active hormone we need in our receptor cells not T4. You didn't say when you had RAI or how long you had been on Naturethroid.
I have only ever taken my thyroid hormones once daily. First it relieves you of remembering to take the next dose and second, T3 is needed to saturate the cells.
You have to give some time to make sure you have a good trial of any thyroid hormones. Otherwise it might be a very long time before you are stabilised. Concentrate on one for at least six months. Sometimes all that is needed is a slight increase. As Galathea states above 3 to 4 grains is normal for many.
Hi dxbgal, are we the ones discussing the higher T3 than T4 the other day? I've since found a little more about that. Your system can overcompensate for low T4. It didn't explain how or why but it can pull more T4 out of storage and convert it to enough T3. To me, it seems your other systems are in good shape to do this. It could be that progesterone is used to make cortisol which in turn may reduce reverse T3. This is speculation however but you can tell that the body will try to make things right somehow.
