Sounds like you are not taking enough meds. I had a hysterectomy for heavy periods, but found out years later, that this could maybe have been avoided with a dose increase.

Wen did you last have a thyroid blood test and what were the results? How much, and what medication do you take?

Kagz, ask your GP receptionist or practice manager for a copy of your results with the lab ref ranges (figures in brackets after the results) and post them in a new question and members will advise whether you are optimally medicated.

Did you take levothyroxine before your blood test as it can skew results?

Yes I did

Your blood tests therefore wont be 'true' and as doctors only take notice of the TSH that's why he's reduced your dose. This is some advice for next time:-

"Blood Test: Have the earliest possible appointment . Leave 24 hours since last dose of levo and test as it may skew results and fast too. Take levo after test.

Take thyroid hormones on wakening and wait approx 1 hour before eating. Some foods interfere with medication. I leave 4 hours between hormones and supplements which I have at lunchtime. Some prefer bedtime dosing, in that case you must leave 2 hours after eating before taking hormones. If you've had a fatty meal it should be longer. Food can interfere with the uptake.

Ask for Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be tested. They should be towards the upper range. "

Don't reduce your dose and go back to your dose. You can tell the doctor why but he probably wont understand how the hormones work anyway. Ask if he would add 20mcg of T3 instead of an increase in levo (probably wont) but no reason why not to ask.

So if you were good on 125, how come its reduced to 100? If you don't have a thyroid 100 is not a full replacement dose. (200 would be nearer the mark) Can you not go back to your old dose and see if it helps?

You may have just lost a packet, dropped into sink etc.

I like Shaws idea but you will still run out after that. Why not call your doctor and explain you had just taken your dose and are sure because you are feeling so poorly that the reduction is just not working out for you. You do have SOME rights (hopefully).

What is your serum ferritin level? It may have come back "normal" but be right at the bottom of the range - especially if you have heavy periods. You sound very much at risk for iron depletion.... are you taking an iron supplement?

My iron levels came bck normal to I also have endo so it makes things worse

I don't understand why they don't know more about how metabolism works or is affected by too low a dose of hormones.

in reply tokagz

Yes, but what was "normal"? What was the actual reading for serum ferritin?

Not what you're looking for?
