Thoughts anyone?
Free T4 20, Free Triii. 5.2, TSH 1.2,
Vit B12 242, Vit D 10, Folate 4.5,
Was put on high dosage of Vit D and then lower one daily.
Glands under neck have been up since Aug, repeatedly have told Dr.
Was so ill last week saw Health Nurse who got a Dr who has some experience of Thyroid. Dr thinks may have parathyroid problem......

TSH, FT4 and FT3 look pretty good and don't indicate undermedication.
VitD 10 is deficient. What loading and maintenance doses were you prescribed and have you retested since?
B12 is low. >500 is desirable and most like to have B12 at the top of range. Supplement 5,000mcg methylcobalamin sublingual lozenges, spray or patches for 4-6 weeks to build levels and then maintain with 1,000mcg daily. Take a B Complex vitamin to keep the other B vitamins balanced and improve your folate.
PTH and calcium blood tests should determine whether you are hyperparathyroid.
FT3 5.2 pmol/L (3.1-6.8), FT4 20pmol/L (10.0-22.0), TSH 1.2mu/L (0.3.-5.5)

Highcliffe, the thyroid results are good, FT4 is in the top 75% of range and FT3 is over 50% of range. Correcting vitD deficiency aids conversion of T4 to T3.
Some doctors think that low vitD can be due to hyperparathyroidism but your calcium is within range which makes it unlikely. PTH measures parathyroid hormone levels, but you are unlikely to need it as calcium isn't high.
What is the max dose? VitD deficiency is treated in a variety of ways, but 800iu is a low dose. I was prescribed 40,000iu daily for two weeks and 2,000iu daily for 8 weeks which lifted vitD from <10 to 107.
Other results are within range but you can look them up in labtestsonline.org.uk to see why they were tested.
Personally alongside the need for your vit d to be correct -10 is seriously deficient and you should ask your doc to refer you through to a bone metabolic consultant who can check you out properly and has the power to prescribe short term higher dose of vit d then your GP can -clearly that regime has not worked!! Also will do a bone scan.
Secondly I agree your B12 is low but your GP will say it in range. If you look at the Perncious Anemia website or join their forum on healthunlock you will see they recommend levels of over 500. However they will also advise you to get some testing done BEFORE supplementing with b12 as supplementing can mask problems if there is a reason why you arenot absorbing B12. One test they recommend is Factor C & they may well recommend you get an active B12 test which can be sent to Guys in !ondon (but you need a GP to agree and refer). other tests are full iron serums, folate, vit C. Your GP can do these. Ask them on their forum for help -am sure they will advise -there will be other tests for your GP to do that am afraid I can't remember the names of now. Best to get checked first Xx
I think your folate is probably on the low side as well. You must get your Vit D retested. If your loading dose hasn't been high enough then your maintenance dose won't be helping you at all.
Try a Vit D spray - a mouth absorbable one, just in case you have a problem with absorption in the gut of fat soluble vitamins. And you can take 2,000 iu daily absolutely safely. Much more in your case, you are so deficient. The body stops absorption from the skin at 20,000iu, and I personally wouldn't take more than this a day because I kinda trust nature more than prescriptions.
In the UK it is a lengthy and difficult process getting drugs OK'd for use by the NHS, even simple stuff like D. So the doctors are a bit limited in what they have to prescribe - with something like D it may be worth looking at buying it yourself.

Feeling really rubbish at the moment....letter from Endo. in response to my telephone enuiry confirms that they adhere strictly to the regs. and do not prescribe combines T4&T3 nor NDT as there is isn't good enough medical evidence to support it.....
