Please...could you give your opinion on my mum and brothers thyroid blood results.

Both my mum amd brothers have had their thyroid bloods done. Would you please be able to offer advise.

MUM. ( on NO thyroid replacement)

TSH 2.79 (0.27-4.2)

FT4 12.4. (12-22)

FT3. 4.1. (3.1-6.8)

Mum is 74 and has always had very good health. As my brother and myself are hypo we thought she should get her bloods done. She has been feeling a bit tired over the last year and we wondered if her thyroid was playing up. Do you think she should supplement with a bit of Naturethroid? If so......how much? 1/4 grain? 1/2grain ? None?

I thought maybe her ft3 looked a bit low. Please could you offer your thoughts.

BROTHER - currently taking 1.5 grains of Naturethroid. Age 35

TSH 0.07. ( 0.27-4.2)

FT4 9.8. ( 12-22)

FT3. 5.2. ( 3.1- 6.8)

He's been on this dosage for quite a few months. He has yet to get the spring back in his step. Still a bit fatigued.

I think he'd like to raise his dosage but is concerned about suppressing his TSH further.( that old question!) I fail to see how osteoporosis occurs if you have enough ft3? He left about 18 hours after his last dose before testing. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

( neither has Hashimotos)

Re osteoporosis is seriously overblown. email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org and ask for a copy of the Pulse online article question 6 will say that some of us need a suppressed TSH to feel well. Of course that refers to levo only but NDT should be very much better. 1.5 is quite an average dose and your brother maybe feel better with a rise. If he reads the questions in this link dated August 22, 2005 it may be helpful and November 12, 2003

This is for your Mum.

Your mum's FT3 and FT4 are low. The interpretation of the above link shows that a TSH above >2 would be classified as hypo.

Grateful to you for your thoughts Shaw.

Yes I think we'll try that.

I'm sure she doesn't need much. Just a little boost.

...then maybe check all the vitals - like B12 - Ferritin - Folate - Iron - VitD. As we read here - without those being OPTIMAL the Thyroid just doesn't seem to work or conversion becomes an issue....
