I have been experiencing nose bleeds recently - just wondered whether there is any connection with hypothyroid condition?

Nose bleeds
im hypothyroid, and i had couple bad nose bleeds in past, but they said at the time my blood pressure was higher...blamed it on that...I have a friend with graves disease and she use to get nose bleeds alot..
I used to get them before I started taking Vitamin B12.
I had nose bleeds regularly until getting my meds. right.
I get them occasionally but when I was over medicated that was the first sign that the dose was too high for me. Haven't had one for a while but there is a definite connection. Nothing to be anxious about, take care.
Might be a good idea to check your blood pressure as it can be a symptom of hypertension.
I've been experiencing nose bleeds for about 18 months. I was diagnosed with low B12 just before Christmas and had my loading doses (6 injections over two weeks). My nose bleeds have now stopped. According to some research, low B12 increases homocystiene levels in your blood which can cause nosebleeds.
Good luck
Hi All, have found this really interesting as I had nosebleeds for some time before I got my diagnosis of low B12. Since starting on the injections I have found they have reduced a lot. I am hypothyroid too, I'd never even thought they might have been linked to either condition. I always thought it was a high blood pressure symptom. MariLiz
Yes it is a known hypothyroid symptom. I had them loads before treatment and still get the occasional one now.
Hope you get them sorted
I got them alot for around a year and eventually went to the docs. She gave me some antibiotic cream to apply twice a day for 2 weeks. I was rather sceptical as I felt it was something more structural but it worked, so probably worth trying your GP.
My daughter is prone to nosebleed since 2 years old, now at 12 she still has it. Particular bad in April and Christmas times. What antibiotics cream did gp recommend/prescribe? Lucy
hi. i had lots of nose bleeds at night before i was diagnosed with hypo, and i had low blood pressure! they went when i started medication, and even though levo did not work for me on the whole they did stop, and that was before i even knew about low iron/ferritin, so i definitely think theres a hypo connection its just that everyone responds to different things.
Thanks for the response.
Hi, I get nosebleeds also. Have had one everyday for weeks. People have mentioned B12 and ferritin. On last bloods just before Christmas ferritin was really good almost top of range, my B12 on last blood test in the summer was 550 - could be better and should be at top of range. I am hypo - don't know if nose bleeds are linked, though I also have sinus problems and rhinitis/post nasal drip and allergies - currently on anti histamines x
Thanks for the information - I'm curious to know if there is a link to hypothyroidism.
I had nose bleeds when I had low platelets. Do you have any bruises also if so see doctor
I do not have thyroid issues and am not on any kind of medication. I had nosebleeds for 40 years until my friend suggested that I stop drinking milk; which I did and have not had a nosebleed for 20 years now. If I drink milk, I get them again. Doctors solutions were not successful.
Pretty much all my life, I also had what I thought was an allergy/cold a lot; especially in allergy season and could not breathe properly through my nose but instead I always breathed through my mouth. Doctors said it was because I had a deviated septum; yet, a surgeon did not suggest an operation would produce a guaranteed result although he said he would do it if I wanted him to do it. I chose not to have it done. Other doctor solutions did not work. I read about coconut oil and I now take a tablespoon of it every day and voila, no more nose issues. I have been doing this for about 6 years and so far so good. Coconut oil also has many other beneficial properties.
Thanks - I will look out for them and give them a try.
