Progesterone cream

Hi

Can anyone advise whether progesterone cream stops menstruation? I ask because I have been prescribed this recently and I did not get on with the progesterone only pill which did this and I don't want to go through the same thing again.

Thanks

No, it does not. I used it 365 and got my periods. They were 2.5 to 3 days long and not heavy.

Thank you - I guess I am concerned about the 'side effects' too i.e. Weight gain which I am already trying to deal with and acne - another problem I am trying to combat. I know a lot of things list potential side effects though so I guess I am going to have to take a leap of faith a bit here.

Progesterone cream didn't have any effect on my weight. Lower face acne can be from excess testosterone also. So hormonal imbalance.

Weight gain/fluid retention is usually down to a too high oestrogen level, so taking progesterone should balance you out.

Hi gabkad - interested to read that you were using it 365. I found that the first time I used it (from day 12-25) it helped and then when I stopped I had the worse period ever - heavy and felt like death. When I started up again it seemed to do nothing. What dose were you using? thanks

The 6% cream. It's compounded at the pharmacy. After a few years I got the estrogens added to it as well. But initially in 1999 it was just the progesterone. Applied twice per day. There wasn't enough in the cream to suppress periods. Not even with the estrogen. But it sure helped with PMS. There was a period of time when I stopped using it because I thought I didn't need it. Eventually (probably at least 1.5 years without) it became obvious that I did better with it and started again.

These days I don't use the full dose. Just titrate it so I don't get hot flashes.

It was wonderful for me, but I don't know your reasons for taking it. it helped me with The most awful PMT and I just generally calmed down on it. when I tried HRT, the Progestogen days had me feeling suicidal, the other days weren't great either.

Hi PoshPenny

I too have PMT issues which have gotten worse over the last couple of years. Also, a couple of other issues that the doctor feels are related to Hormones.
