Karen are you on carbimazole? If so recurrent mouth ulcers can be a warning sign something is wrong with your white blood cells. If this is the case you need an immediate blood test, X

Being very low in iron gave me horrendous mouth ulcers. Since I've been working on getting my iron levels up my mouth ulcers have improved enormously.

Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause mouth ulcers. But you cannot assume that is the cause.

However, it is far more important and urgent to consider this warning (as p1pp1ns pointed out):

4.4 Special warnings and precautions for use

Because of the risk of agranulocytosis it is advised that patients should be warned to report to their doctor in the event of a sore throat, fever, mouth ulcers, bruising, malaise, non-specific illness or other symptoms of infection immediately. A full blood count should be performed and treatment should be discontinued immediately if there is clinical or laboratory evidence of neutropenia.

Please note the word "immediately" above. Yes - that would very reasonably include calling the NHS 111 service.

I was told to go to casualty tell them the medication and request a blood test. It seems you can get a result in as little as 20 minutes. but to stop taking the medication immediatly

Can be a classic sign if coeliac, i always have at least 1 even tho g free 2 years now. Toothpastes with sodium lauryl sulphate can also cause them

I know when my levels aren't right that one my symptoms is mouth ulcers this has happened both when I was overactive and now that I am underactive. The best thing that I have found to help them is Bonjela Complete Plus, stings like mad but soon clears them.

Hi Karen I am overactive I was on Carbimazole for 6 years, then the doc decided to take me off Carb for a trial, in the 10 months off the tablets I suffered 4 bouts of sores on my lips, something that I have never had, that bad I had to drink through a straw, and going out was a no no, the only result that showed up on my full blood test was a vitamin D deficiency, 6 weeks ago after having another blood test for my thyroid I was put back on the tablets, my doctor referred me to a dermatologist, and I saw her last week, I took photos of my lips to show the specialist and as soon as looking at them her reply was my immune system was low.

I was told by My GP that the mouth ulcers are a symptom of the treatment for over active thyroid (Carbimizol) I was told if this happened I should contact the surgery as it could be an indication of a compromised immune system, some she said was common with the medication for overactive thyroid
