Mouth ulcers

I'm getting recurrent ulcers. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm having a blood test next week to check thyroid and ferritin levels as well as other checks. I was diagnosed as hypo last September.

Is it a reaction to something you've eaten?

I used to get whoppers within 30 minutes of eating processed soya such as soy cheese & icecream.

Getting your iron and ferritin levels optimal might help. Also, getting B vitamins optimal. And thyroid hormone levels could help too. Take plenty of vitamin C as well.

I would also suggest trying to keep sugar intake down. And be careful with over the counter mouth washes for mouth ulcers. Doctors often recommend Corsodyl or Difflam but they only help if you aren't allergic to them.

I've given up with OTC mouthwashes now. I just keep a flask of boiled then cooled water with a couple of heaped teaspoons of salt in, in the bathroom, and I rinse and gargle with that. It's one of the few things I don't react to.

But, sadly, some people never find the answer that works for them. I haven't, although I don't get quite so many ulcers as I used to, and their lifespan is shorter than it was.

It's sold for sore throats but I use it for mouth ulcers. Just make sure you don't spray it directly on the ulcer, I find doing that is much too painful. Spray to the side of it to reduce pain instead.

Low vitamin b apparantly causes mouth ulcers.....

Our son always had mouth ulcers when he ate gluten. As I'm Celiac I put him on a gluten free diet 4 yrs ago and he rarely ever has mouth ulcers since.

Probably not much help but I had permanent mouth ulcers, different day different places is all but stopped since on Thyroid S. When I switched to T3 only for 3 months they came back, as did sty's in eyes and coldsores, within a month back on Thyroid s all gone again.

Get your B12 checked mouth ulcers are common in people with pernicious anaemia

I went to GP with vague symptoms and sore mouth

Turns out P/A haven't looked back since been on B12 injections

I get them when I take a lot of vitamin C. Usually close to 700 mg will do it. It's almost like the opposite effect of scurvy. Wierd. Strawberries spit too as well as B12 oral spray. I have to do injections

Have you been tested for autoimmune issues? I have a low white blood cell count, and ANA positive and have to see a haematologist every 6 months for a check up. A standard question they ask is have I been getting mouth ulcers, no one has ever explained why.

I used to get them now and again years ago, but it's one of the few symptoms I haven't had in relation to hypothyroidism. Just a thought.
