Thyroid armour

Hi. Paid for a private prescription for 200 half grain of Armour thyroid medication today at a cost of 107 pounds. Seems a lot of money or is it bout right ?????

I have paid £88 for 250 grains online from a uk pharmacy but when they ran out I paid £66 for 100 from Boots.

Yes but you need a prescription of course.

Almost any UK pharmacy could supply Armour or Nature-Throid if you have a prescription. Some will do so willingly and helpfully, others might be grudging or refuse. And, if against a private prescription, shop around as prices vary hugely.

Have you thought of trying thyroid-s? I'm not certain, but I believe it may be a generic version of Armour with the same fillers. It's a fraction of the cost.

It really doesn't matter if it is notionally the same fillers (excipients) or not. We see batch-to-batch problems with what are claimed to be identical ingredients. So you simply must treat it as a different product.

We have on this very forum seen discussion over batch-to-batch variability of at least the following products:

Mercury Pharma Liothyronine

Armour Thyroid

Erfa Thyroid

Mercury Pharma Levothyroxine

I am not pointing my finger at Thyroid S as against Armour Thyroid. Merely pointing out that having the same list of excipients is no argument for regarding one product as being the same as another. I don't think you can possibly say that two products are the same on the basis of list of excipients alone because, if nothing else, the precise specifications that each product has to conform to could vary significantly. (I don't even know that we have a genuine list of ingredients of Thyroid S at all!)

Have you tried here? They're the cheapest I know of - <long link to internet source>. I take 1 grain at a time, but bought 2 grains then split the pill in half - works out cheaper that way.

I bought 1,000 1 grain thiroyd from Thailand for about £70. Not sure if that deal is still around. Thiroyd I found to be absolutely fine and compares with Armour.

There are other NDT's cheaper than Armour, go on the Stop the Thyroid Madness site, they are listed there.

I've been buying NDT online for 2 years now without prescription, not sure if there's a clamp down going on now according to some posts on here.

If you are buying with script try pharmarama, Two years ago i paid £35 for 100 tabs. Otherwise buy Thyroid S online. It works fine for me and offers value for money compared to private scripts

Oh bugger, I just ordered my first ever natural thyroid-s because I don't have a prescription. And based on your comments it's not the best move...any suggestions please?

Many people seem to positively like Thyroid S.

I criticise their lack of a proper list of ingredients but that says nothing at all about their product. In many other countries it is a legal requirement to make that information available - clearly not in Thailand (or not enforced). And it makes it difficult if you are trying to avoid specific ingredients.

Similar to Thiroyd - both mentioned by others up the thread.

They are makes of desiccated thyroid from Thailand. As I have never seen either, let alone taken them, I am no expert and have to go by what I can see and read. Both have their adherents who swear by them as well as those who do not like them (one, or the other, or both).

Lack of full information makes me unhappy but as we always get round to saying, if they work that is the ultimate proof.

I spent about 120 from springfeild pharmacy for 3 months worth of armour 2 grains on a private prescription. I am looking for another way of affording my treatment and am thinking of using Dr lowes bovine thyroid stuff thyrogold. Any advice welcome
