Armour Thyroid and Diet Pills

Hello, please help me. I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid (Hypothyroidism). I take 15mg. Because of excessive weight gain I went to the doctor and was given a prescription for Phendimetrazine 35mg. I’m confused as to wether it’s okay to take diet pills while taking thyroid medication. My thyroid medication is helping with my thyroid symptoms except this weight gain. Has anyone else taken diet pills with an under active thyroid problem?

If you were optimally treated with replacement thyroid hormone, you should be able to lose weight and a diet pill wouldn't be necessary.

What are you latest thyroid test results and what replacement hormone are you actually taking?

15 mg of Armour thyroid is 1/4 grain NDT . That's a very low dose . That's 9.5 T4 and 2.25 T3 . I'm on a low dose NDT too but I also dose in addition with a higher doseT4 . I'm not sure what your Dr has in mind ? I don't know if your on any nutrients . Adding Vitamin "D" /K2 , Iron if you test low , B-Complex , B12/folate , magnesium , vitamin "C" , Celtic Sea Salt for adrenals /electrolytes . Please work with an Endo that you trust that has your best interest in mind . You might also want to try going gluten dairy soy sugar free . Many are doing it and feel so much better . More clear mind more energy even weight loss .

Wishing you better days ahead .

First thing is, do you have any actual blood test results? if not will need to get hold of copies. You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

How long since Thyroid tested last?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Ask GP to test vitamins and antibodies if not been done

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

I take 15mg.

What exactly are you taking? Knowing what thyroid meds you take will help us interpret your results.

15mg of what?

We can't interpret your results without know exactly what thyroid meds you take.

As I asked in previous post, exactly what thyroid meds are you taking?

Also please tell us when you took your last dose before testing.
