Mary Shomon posted an article about Forest Labs, maker of the Armour brand being sold to Actavis. OK, it was posted yesterday so I'm a day late and a dollar short as usual. PR thyroid.about.com/

How much is the price for Armour please ?

James

in reply to Bigsi

That rather depends on how much you want (e.g., what strength tablet) and where you buy it from. By way of example, the place we buy it from charges around £35 for a pack of 100 2 grain pills.

Little bit more about the deal here.

Thank you for reply, I can't see anything about the product on that link !

Hi James

I think that is because the thread is about the whole make being sold, rather than individual dosages...

Some info about Armour here, but not about the price as Thyroid UK does not encourage self-medication.

I wonder if that will be an excuse to increase the price of Armour? Or even discontinue it? if they don't feel it is financially viable.

Then again, if they think they can make a higher profit on it, maybe they will start promoting it's use to the doctors and endos? Time will tell ! But we are all in the hands of Big Pharma.

It is hard to tell what will happen although I wouldn't be surprised at a price increase. In one of the reports on drugs sold, in the US, Synthroid was shown at 23 million scripts and some $800,000,000 in sales and then they had a thyroid category at 4 million with no explanation as to what was included. It would be a reasonable guess that Armour might be in the million script range but I have no idea of the profitability. Erfa did experience a shortage last fall because of increased demand, they said, but again no idea of overall numbers. PR

Hi This is interesting. For the first time ever, despite all the shortages, over many years. I took 2 weeks to have my armour on a script from my usual pharmacy.Unfortunately , again, it is wait and see.

Best wishes,

Jackie

I'm still waiting for my prescription - been a few weeks now. Getting a bit worried.

Hi The company are being taken over by another USA company, I guess that may be the problem. I would ask ,if you are using the International Pharmacy, I know they do take at least 2 weeks. I had a problem from Springfield, Uk first time ever. Although had it in the end. private script.

It is so popular should be Ok. You could use Erfa for now, OK to interchange, very similar, slightly less T3. I find Armour best, similar . made in Canada.

Thanks. It is through my pharmacist who use Idis. Will give them a ring tomorrow.

Maybe now there might be the money to fund a proper trial into whether Armour is superior to levo only... please please PLEASE!!! And PLEASE let Armour make them more money :-s !!!

Levo is really so cheap, why no research. Cardiac drugs very expensive so lots of money for research. Also why armour, the only thyroid med was dropped, price!, when the levo was made.
