Armour Thyroid updated

Since my trial of NDT I've started feeling the same as I was on Levo Thyroxine. The brain fog and concentration issues are as constant and I've mostly got a dull headache from morning to night. I feel a bit flat and non motivated to do basic things which is not like me.

I've just had a blood test and have been on 2 1/2 grains for 6 months and 2 grains before that for 9 months. My Consultant is saying I'm looking over medicated as my TSH level is low and wants to switch me back to Levo. The only difference I can see is the decline in my T3. I know I don't convert well as I've had a NDA test and it point at a few thyroid indicators I should be aware of.

These were taken last week.

07 March 19 29 Nov 18 06 Sep 18 10 July 18 15 Feb 18 20 Nov 17

Free T3 4.6 5.1 6.6 9.5

Free T4 14.0 12.1 17.5 14.4

TSH 0.08 0.07 0.08 1.4 0. 15 0.30

The question is should I switch to Levo, he suggested a dose of 200mgs & 175mgs on alternate days. I feel this is just going around in circles and won't achieve anything new apart from massive frustration.

Cheers

Alex

It's not easy trying to understand results when they're displayed like that.

If you can add the reference ranges we can interpret them, ranges vary from lab to lab.

Just taking your latest results

TSH 0.08

Free T4 14.0

Free T3 4.6

We don't know where in range your FT4 and FT3 lie so we can't comment.

Your TSH is obviously below range.

Any doctor prescribing NDT should know that it lowers, even suppresses TSH so it's no surprise that your TSH is so low.

It also tends to lower FT4, but we can't comment on either FT4 or FT3 at the moment.

Conversion doesn't come into it when taking NDT as you're taking T3 exogenously (in the NDT). If you go back on Levo and you know you have poor conversion, then you will have a low FT3 compared to FT4 and you wont feel well.

Thyroid hormone can't work properly unless all vitamins and minerals are at optimal levels. Did you test these, are they optimal?

Why would that be different, not sure what this is.

Sorry miss-read. I did take just T3 15 months ago but had palpitations with it.

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested?

These need to be optimal

Couldn't see any results in previous posts

did you make the switch to levo?

Yes I'm on 175mg now and feel a bit better than on the armour. I started on 200mgs but my eye were so itching and dry I went down to 175 which has helped a bit. I got slight hand tremors and brain fog is still there, so feel a bit stuck at the moment and not sure where to go next.

Just curious why your doctor suggested 175/200 on alternate days, instead of prescribing 25 mcg pills you can cut in halves to take 187.5 mcg/day?

did you try to add t3? have you tested your levels on the levo now, maybe you are overmedicated?

I'm only 2 1/2 weeks in so not tested again yet, I've always been under the impression it takes about 6 weeks to get settled?

Is there any sense in taking Levo and Armour or does that just contradict the process?
