Naveed, if you are comfortable on your current dose your practice is fine. If you feel you need an increase in dose and your GP is reluctant to prescribe it would be better to have your thyroid blood test early in the morning when TSH is highest as this may persuade him/her to increase your dose.
You should take your medication after your blood test because it peaks in the blood 2-6 hours before normalising and may give a false low TSH reading.
