Unfortunately surgery is usually recommended - but there is quite a lot that can be done to help fibroids naturally using diet (e.g. gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free) and supplements (e.g. serrapeptase, various vitamins and minerals including vit C, iodine, magnesium, selenium, zinc). It can take a while, but many have found this kind of approach to be successful.

Best Wishes.

Hazel.

Hello, thank you for your reply and link, I guess I should wait for the scN and take it from there!

I just waited until menopause - and then they shrink. Tried to stay away from Docs at the time :-) Not much fun at the time but hey that was a long time ago ! Can be linked to low thyroid too....

Hi..I have cooed with this far too long thinking it was to do with the menopause silly me!! It was too debilitating and effecting my life to continue to ignore, but I appreciate your point thank you.

Hi - i have been through this - unfortunately. First things first, this is caused by oestrogen dominance which is linked to thyroid disease, so make sure your thyroid levels are being managed effectively (and not the NHS way)

Depending on where the fibroids are - mine was enormous, took up 90% of womb cavity - growing into womb on a stalk. Therefore i was able to have a hysteroscopic myomectomy. This is where, under GA, they use a tool to go in through the vagina and burn it up/suck it out. If yours is big like mine was - you first have a 9month course of an awful drug called zoladex, which causes immediate pseudo menopause; it switched off oestrogen which shrinks the fibroid to a size that can be operated on.

While waiting for surgery i had to have 3 blood transfusions, it was sheer hell - i was house bound with bleeding, hopefully yours is not that bad?

If you have the fibroids growing intramurally, your options are far more limited. You will either need open surgery - or you may be able to have endometrial ablation, but they tend to grow back again as that just deals with the section penetrating the endometrium

Let's see what kind you have, come back and tell us and we may be able to offer more advice/share experiences.

Hi..how very kind of you to reply in such a detailed and helpful way, I. do appreciate it, am sorry you have gone through all this!! I guess I need to wait to see the results Of scan, I have noticed that my extreme need to go for a wee has increased, I was putting that down to getting older, but doing some research I find that fibroids can push on the bladder so creating this feeling of urgency! Oh to be a woman!! I will keep you posted thank you so much!

Sesbo, i hope i haven't scared you. Personally I like to be informed. Keep us posted as it helps to shop around on the nhs if you do need surgery - not all of them can do the minimally invasive techniques. It is all about the size and position, so lets see.

I am trying to get rid of my "new" ones or at least keep them getting bigger. I have heard that turmuric/curcumin can help but you need large doses in capsule form. Maybe something to consider meanwhile?

Bluedaffodil thank you no you haven't scared me, after I did ask!! It's good to be informed, I am not unduly worried and will wait and see what the scan shows..to be honest I just want an answer for these hideous periods and to be rid, the doctor has given me some medication in thr meantime to help reduce the severity so at least I am getting help now.

My friend had a huge fibroid, she was given tablets to reduce it and it worked!!

in reply toGlynisrose

Oh that's good, so sometimes surgery can be avoided.

Hi..just an update..some fibroids have been found plus a growth on my kidney..so it was good I had the scan! Am awaiting follow up with the fibroids and a CT scan for the other!

If the ultrasound show fibroids the GP will refer you to a gynaecologist, if they recommend embolization you will then be sent for an MRI & meet the doctor to see if you qualify as they only do it on large fibroids.

Hi thank you cazza8 I never received a follow up appointment..just the scan for the kidney which was okay..I presume they didn't feel the fibroids were large enough although they still give me horrid periods 🙁

I think if they're small they can give you medication & my GP mentioned the coil, which would probably help with the periods.

Thanks cazza8 yes I am on meds to reduce the periods but they make me extremely tired so am not able,to take the full dosage.
