If you have had issues with another form of progesterone then tell them you don't consent to a hormonal coil due to it being the same hormone. Explain clearly why you refuse to give consent. They will then suggest you should have a copper coil - if you are unhappy with this refuse as well.

Hi you dont say how old you are so I can only give you advice from personal experience. I didnt get fibroids till I was 50 . I am now 59 and just reached menopause now. I have been messed about by the nhs for 9 years and still in pain. The bleeding has more or less stopped now even though they reckon by blood tests im post menopausal. Depending on your age a coil could be good or bad idea. I had very heavy periods that lasted for a month. They offered me a coil but i said no due to the artificial progesterone as it made me very ill in past. Then they said we wouldnt give you one anyway as your womb is so large and distorted it wouldnt stay in place. I also refused the hysteroscopy. They suggested a hysterectomy and then changed their minds. What ever you do if they offer you lupron injections DONT do it. I had two ended up in A&E on several occassions. Extreme headaches and blood pressure through the roof. Its dangerous stuff and has left many women disabled in USA. I havent been the same since my health has just been rubbish. It has caused the problems I now have with my thyroid. It shuts down everything not just your ovaries, the stuff should be banned. Dont let them convince you to try it. All they need to do is an internal scan it will tell them everything they need to know. I had biopsies done every year. I gave up with the nhs as they messed me about. I just felt like a big experiment to them. My womb has shrunk back to normal size now but the fibroids are still 3cm. They were 7cm at their largest and my womb was size of 5 months pregnancy. I have pain where my fibroids are pressing on my bladder. I have read that fibroids are caused by lack of vit d and hormone imbalance. I also think that low thyroid has a lot to do with it as well. I think no matter what it is now we have to take our health in to our own hands. I would advise you to do as much research as possible to help you make informed decissions. You can say no, dont let them mess you about. If I had known more 9 years ago I wouldnt have let them experiment on me. If you are younger then you need to look at your hormone balance. I used progesterone cream for years to control heavy bleeding. I was told to stop it as it could cause fibroids. The year after i stopped it the fibroids started growing. I think stopping caused the fibroids to grow. The progesterone kept my hormones balanced. Do some research if I knew your age I could probably advise better xx

i had firbroids, one very nasty one on top of cervix had actually bent it over, i was in terrible pain, they were also unable to do smear test due to the fibroids blocking the cervix. I was down for hysterectomy but this also coincided with my deciding to self treat with NDT when i went for my pre op scan approx 5-6 weeks later the fibroids had disappeared, only change had been the NDT. The surgeon was gob smacked, he had no idea how it had happened which of course i did, all my hormones were unbalanced after a TT. Do research, do not accept what they say as set in stone

im 45, not sure about menopause as lab refused due to my age

my uterus is anteverted and bulky in size, biggest fibroid 11mm

im happy for internal scan but none of the rest they mentioned as it sounds scarey and painful

i have the progesterone implant fitted (due to be removed now)

the last bleed lasted forever and has now started back up again after maybe 2-3 week break, my stomach is so crampy its horrible

Hi sorry for delay have been in bed with flu. Ok you are 45 and they wont test your hormones. I got the same but they kept telling me i was too old. I insisted for years i was low in progesterone but they werent interested at my age i didnt need progesterone! What utter rubbish! I have never had a hot flush or any other menopausal symptoms so they werent interested as that is all they know about. Giving women estrogen when no doubt they already have too much. If your fibroids are that big you have estrogen dominance. Also why your periods are so bad. You may have luck as you are younger. Tell them you will not accept progestins you want prometrium or utrogestan both are natural progesterones dont accept anything else. It could be the implant has made the fibroids grow even bigger as it has shut off your natural progesterone. They will try feeding you the rubbish that natural progesterone will make them grow. That is utter rubbish. They will try to push lupron injections to cut off your hormones as i said dont do it, its dangerous stuff used in chemical castration and anti cancer treatment in men with prostrate cancer. You need natural progesterone therapy. I presume you have thyroid problems if you are here? If like me you dont have hashis low progesterone could be causing your thyroid problems. The implant has made it worse and so will the coil preventing ovulation xx
