Underactive thyroid and fibroids: I was diagnosed... - Thyroid UK
Underactive thyroid and fibroids
Yes, for sure. The endocrine system works like an orchestra. When 1 part is out, it has a knock on effect on the rest.
Yes this is what I thought but my doc said she doesn't think it's related
Let me guess, NHS? Your doc is wrong - you can research it online
My own experience would say yes it is ! The Thyroid is the conductor of the orchestra - mentioned by Bluedaffodil - along with the Pituitary.....
Never connected it but I have them also, hmmm interesting!! Mines are very tiny though but having terrible pain every mth and prolonged bleeding its exausting.
I never connected it either but had fibroids and now hypoT diagnosed.
Same as me fibroid first n now thyroid problem I've also got endometriosis I be intreaged if that was connected also
Me too. Learned I had fibroids about 6 years ago and later diagnosed as hypothyroid. All to do with our hormonal systems so it stands to reason. Hormonally I feel as if I am on a roller coaster at the moment - just turned 50! Feels like I'm menopausal with added extras!
I think it is connected too as my mum had a fibroid & is hypo but undiagnosed. I am hypo too and i suspect my brother is too.
I had my first polyp discovered in March and am trying to get diagnosis of hypo at the moment. I definitely think the two are related.
I also had fibroids and virtually continuous bleeding although I had a Mirena coil fitted. The dr replaced it but it continued, to the point that the Mirena actually fell out! Decided to have a keyhole hysterectomy and problem solved, but actually never been quite right since. Have had breast cancer (think that is related to the coil, as it was ER+) and since I took Tamoxifen am now post menopausal. Used to be good with the Levo but since moving house my doctor has changed the dosage several times and now I am completely up the creek with it. Working through slowly though, and getting there.
