Can anybody give me advice regarding g what you take naturally for low stomach acid .

I suffer indegestion, heartburn and have been given meds’ like PPI ‘s , gavisgon and none of them take away symptoms and have made my digestion a lot worse . So that is why I think I’m suffering low stomach acid .

I’m under active thyroid and on combating t3 /t4

Many thanks for any help x

Hi there i have noticed from your bio you have been suffering alot and i have spoken to you previously, i also suffer from those symptons as i do have a hiatul hernia and acid reflux detected by a endoscopy, i think it is useful if you have been suffering a while for your gp to send you for a endoscopy to rule out other things aswell- i was on ppis for a while but decided to come of them- docs dish these out like smartie bad thing.

Alot of people here take betaine/pepsin for low stomach acid. You could google it and read about it.

Im sure other people will be along shortly who have experience in taking this but i do think you should go back to gp and tell them the ppis are not working and say you need investigating.good luck.

Yes have told doctors this and have got some betaine pepsin . Just wondered if you can take it with digestive enzymes ?

I dont know much aboutvit but have googled it for you and it does state that you can benefit from taking them together but not taking them at the same time and giving yourself at least 20 mins apart in taking the next one. But please get further advise from someonevon here. You may like to put out a new post or contact your local chemists and ask to speak to the pharmacist as they will tell you.😊

Thanks so much for your advice , yes I’m off all ppi as they always made me worse . I tested negative for h . Pylori. I am taking digestive enzymes 2 with every meal . I’m vegetarian , I’m eating such small meals of just veg and mash potato. But still getting horrendous ingestion so wondering about not having enough acid to break down food . Am eating gluten free

Have you been tested for Helicobacter Pylori? If not, ask your doctor to arrange proper testing. The treatment is multiple antibiotics, and the various options are described here :

bnf.nice.org.uk/treatment-s...

The testing method is described in that link as well as the treatment.

The above link comes from the British National Formulary, so your doctor can't dismiss it.

If you have an ulcer then taking acidic remedies (such as vinegar or Betaine Hydrochloride) for low stomach acid will be very painful and will make your ulcer worse and should be avoided. You would have to heal the ulcer before trying any remedies for low stomach acid.

Yes came back negative . When I saw consultant he said it was erosion and would be size of pin prick and played it down !

For helping to heal your gut you could do some research into L-Glutamine and Zinc Carnosine.
