Vit D Deficient

I gave just returned from holiday to find a letter from my Dr saying I need to make an appt regarding my recent Vit D blood tests. I am assuming my results have come back low. My T3 is also low and so I am assuming this is perhaps the reason why I am not converting.

Does anyone have any advice on questions I should ask my Dr when I see her?

Make sure you obtain copies of all your results...as other things may be low - but not by your GP ! You need Ferritin - Folate - B12 - Iron also to be optimal for good conversion of T4 into T3. Am not sure that many Docs are aware of this.....

If you have your latest Thyroid test results with ranges - we can offer more helpful advice.....maybe you need an increase of T4 or T3 adding to the mix...

Hemm, vitD needs fat for absorption so take it with food.

Also add in K2 to make sure the vit D3 ends up in your bones not your organs.

What is K2 please? I have also heard that this should be taken with Magnesium, is this correct?

K2 in lots of food - safer than taking a supplement. Gouda cheese is a good source. Not sure where magnesium comes into the equation. Think one should be sure one is lacking before taking though I would think food sources fine.

Meant to say K2 is a vitamin

K2 is a vitamin that helps vid d3 be used appropriately and safely in your body. There are various forms of vit k but only k2 is the one that is safe in vit pill form. You can get it in food but only in very tiny amounts. I take 10,000iu of vit d3 4 times a week and k2 in pill form is essential in order to avoid calcification of organs.

Vit not vid

Why are we never told this by the doctor when they give you Vitamin D? I was told or learnt from this site that you needed to take Magnesium whilst taking Vit D as magnesium can get used up otherwise? I am learning something new every day, I already rattle with the amount of vits and minerals I am taking.

I knew nothing about magnisium and vit d. Probably why I'm constipated. I'm low in magnisium.

I am Vitamin D toxic ! and magnesium deficient with low but in range iron. Calcium over range too.

GP advised to take Magnesium supplement.

have you overdosed a bit? I though it controlled calcium absorption, perhaps K2 needed too?

I just exfoliate with epsom salts in the bath, but many take magnesium supplements - you can't really have too much mg you just have dire rear (a 'dose of salts') :D

Yes Sparerib,

I overdosed ;( . 160.0 ug/L (>20 ) HIGH ( may be toxic)

Too much NDT too so Dr P told me to have two days off and reduce dose, so okay there I think .

I use a Magnesium spray on my arm as I appear to have a trapped nerve ? not sure though I fell and badly bruised it. Taking 500 mg of Magnesium a day. I have some salt for a bath too ......

I have got a strange white blob on my toe nail , thought it was paint as I am doing a large mural on the garage wall :) , could this be excessive calcium ?

New blood test says I am back in range.

Been checked for Parathyroid Boarder (line in range)

Thank you everyone I will be sure to ask my Dr about K2 although can't get even a telephone appointment until next Friday. I had a long list of blood tests after changing Dr as my previous Dr had no interest and would not listen to anything I brought to her. Fingers crossed I get more help with this one.
