Any advice please… serum iron level is 17.1 (9.0 - 30.4)

TIBC 42.1 (45.0 - 72.0) Ferritin is 159 (5.0 - 204.0) It looks like my Ferritin is quite good, what about my TICB and Serum Iron levels, should i be taking iron or not, because my Ferritin is good already? Your help would be greatly appreciated xx

The total iron-binding capacity (TIBC or transferrin) test is used to measure the amount of iron in the body. Transferrin is a glyco-protein that's found in blood plasma, and binds to iron to act as a carrier for the iron in the bloodstream.

The guide is that:

If you have an iron deficiency, your iron level will be low but your TIBC will be high.

If you have too much iron - for example, if you have a condition such as haemochromatosis, your iron level will be high but your TIBC will be low or normal.

Transferrin is produced by the liver, so your TIBC level will also be low if you have liver disease.

What I don't know, and perhaps someone can answer this, as ferritin is the storage protein for iron, does a good/high ferritin level always equate with good/high iron levels ie can the ferritin ever be "empty" or "low", on iron?

According to this there are negative implications for high ferritin.
