Hi, Molly your results are hypothyroid (under active) not hyperthyroid (over active). How much Levothyroxine are you taking and how long have you been taking it?
Your TSH is too high and suggests you are under medicated. People usually feel best with their TSH just above or below 1. Your FT4 and FT3 are also low.
Hi Clutter, sorry for the confusion, I was hyper but had radio iodine pill, now I'm hypo as you correctly describe, I have been on150 levo for a year and have been 175 for the last two weeksx, when I was intially diagnosed lost 6 stone but have since put on 4 stone and increasing.
Molly
My sister does the same thing, Molly Your TSH is surprisingly high for someone on 150mcg T4. Hopefully, the increase will do the trick. Make sure to have a repeat thyroid function test in 6/8 weeks.
If your FT4 and FT3 don't improve it may be worth asking your GP to prescribe some T3 in addition to T4. Thyroidless patients don't always do well on T4 monthotherapy as discussed in this study eje-online.org/content/161/...
There are several other causes of HYPERTHYROIDISM than Graves. Very important to realise this when considering treatment. For example, pituitary tumour or toxic multinodular goitre.
If you seem to need a relatively high dose of levothyroxine, it can be very useful to consider whether something about how you take the tablets or your diet could be having an impact.
Are you taking your tablets well away from food, drink(other than water, supplement and other medicines?
Are you eating things which affect thyroid such as soya products. (Modest amounts of fermented soya products such as a dash of soy sauce do not seem to be a problem. Soy lecithin also seems not to be an issue.) Remember, most British "factory" bread now contains soya flour.

Hi Rod
Thank you for your email, I do sometimes eat soy products as I don't eat meat.
Many thanks
Molly
There was a post the other day from someone who used to eat quite a bit of soy product, and was on a high dose of levothyroxine. Cutting out the soy, they felt over-dosed and cut their dose. Seems to be a definite interaction.
The other thing to be very aware of is vitamin B12 - which pretty much only comes from animal products (or supplements produced from bacteria).
Rod
Many thanks for the info
Molly
