How many people here are taking antidepressants with natural desiccated thyroid?

I just thought I'd put this out there. How do you find the two together?

I am not on anti-d's but just wondered if your dose of NDT is high enough?

Yes the docs don't know what they are doing! Watch Out there's a psychiatrist about.

If you get beyond their knowledge

they get you hooked.

Try St Johnswort if you must take something. Go to relaxation classes. Join a interest club do evening classes if you have enough energy.

Soon as they say depression and you let them drug you it's a slippery slope.

You need to find someone who knows what they are looking at.

Be very careful of St John's Wort - it has lots of effects including (possibly) causing elevated TSH. Read up thoroughly before doing anything else.

For example:

You should not be taking anti - depressants and thyroxine, One of Hypothyroid's main symptoms is depression!!

I was put in anti depressants (citalopram 10mg a day) about a month back and was on 125/120mg (5/2 days a week) levothyroxine. I also started on 400iu vit d because I was deficient (29). I began to feel a bit better after a week and much better now but I have also started to reduce levo (by 25mg) and add NDT (quarter grain) and seeing further improvements. There was a big discussion about antidepressants yesterday which was interesting - will post the link.

In addition to hypothyroidism low vit D can make you feel rather low -due to the exhaustion, non restorative sleep and the pain and weakness it gives you. Am surprised your GP hasn't wanted to see what increasing your Vit D level and increasing your thyroid meds would do first. I am not aware though that you can't take anti-depressants with thyroid meds. Hope you feel better soon.

Dr P talks about this in his book. Fluoxetine is a no no because it contains Flouride, Lithium also bad. He also talks about other drugs and supplement interactions with NDT :)
