Metavive is not NDT. It is a glandular, classed as a food supplement with no disclosed hormone content. Don't expect the same results with Metavive as with NDT such as Armour, Erfa, etc, which have fixed, disclosed hormone content.

What allergens are you concerned about?

NP Thyroid is currently lactose free.

I seem to recall that Armor/Armour is also lactose-free (can anybody confirm?), but that contains Titanium Dioxide, which you might want to avoid.

Acacia, lactose, magnesium stearate

A tablet cannot be formed without excipients due to the tiny amount of active ingredient within them. Fillers are just one type of excipient, by the way, they each have different specific purposes. So if you are asking about excipients generally, this article might help tpauk.com/main/article/ingr...

Imagine a simple sugar cube. Their weights vary but some are around 2.5 grams.

Now draw nine parallel lines on the faces of the cube (dividing it into 10 equal strips). And cut along those lines. That will give you one thousand very small cubes – each one will be 2.5 milligrams.

On one of those cubes, draw two lines on each face and cut again. That will give you 9 tiny cubes – each one will be about 28 micrograms. That is how small the quantity active ingredient in a single 25 microgram levothyroxine tablet.

Thank you!

Not NDT as in order to make capsules or tablets fillers must be used. Thyroid glandulars like Metavive, ThyroGold and Thyrovanz usually just contain rice flour as an excipient, but may not contain hormones

I bought WP Thyroid, as it was the one with the fewest nasties. contains: inulin, MCTs, and trace amounts of lactose monohydrate.

i couldn't find one with nothing but thyroid.

I currently take Tirosint, however it is Levo. It contains no fillers, it is a liquid gel capsule. I am in the USA, don't know if you have it in UK.

Thanks. I'm in the uk and wanted to try ndt - but i've saved the name in case. i had to buy the ndt from the states, so i doubt it would be a major issue getting tirosint if need be.

Tirosint is not NDT, it is a substitution for Synthroid but without fillers. (it's T4 only)

ah, in that case I'll stick with my ndt!

This information is from my Thai NDT supplier.

“Thiroyd from Greater Pharma Ltd. dissolves very well sublingually. Potential fillers are Lactose, Tapioca Starch, Sodium Starch Glycolate, PVP K-30, PVP K-90, Isopropyl Alcohol, Colloidal Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate.”

Wouldn't you love to know what is meant by "Potential fillers"?

Rather sounds as if they have eight containers of "fillers" and chuck a bit in from whichever they fancy. :-) Bit like pizza toppings.

In the USA, they use one of several substances to dilute the desiccated thyroid powder in the process of standardisation.

Two substances that are used are sucrose (ordinary cane or beet sugar) and lactose. There are other possibilities.

I'd guess that anyone trying to standardise desiccated thyroid powder would have to do the same. Hence, it is unlikely to be any NDT which has absolutely no other ingredients (even if the powder is simply poured into a capsule).

Obviously, if the manufacturer doesn't attempt to standardise their product they could avoid any form of diluent - but I'd also not call their product a medicine, rather a supplement.

Not what you're looking for?
