I wonder if you all know that you can get NDP both armour and Westroid with a private prescription form Tesco. It was a lot cheaper that buying it with a prescription from Jersey and there was no vat to pay.

Just a thought, you have to asked but they will do it , I know as I have done it.

You can also get all the thyroid meds as well and most other meds at a better price than the high street chemist chain. The only one I found soo expensive was DHEA. Again you will need a private prescription.

and you get Tesco points as well !!!

What were you charged for the various products?

Quite a number of people here, although they might have prescriptions (or could get them), find purchase from abroad (not usually Jersey) more economical - despite vat and the charge for collecting that levied by Royal Mail. Without knowing the prices it will be difficult for them to decide between Tesco and elsewhere.

Rod,

I cannot remember but it was a lot cheaper than the other outlets I mentioned. Tesco or at least my store will give me a price before I placed my Prescription with them, so you cannot lose. There are other place abroad where you can buy with out an prescription but I do not think this site condones this.

I know that T3 was half the price of other Pamacy I think recall a box of 100 25MCR T3 was around 40 GBP , My wife also bought her IVF drugs from them and they were half the cost of the other chains.

I hope that help.

Certainly interesting, thanks.

Current price for 100 25mcg Cynomel from a source well known to some here is £13.88. That gets below the £15 vat limit so works out very economical.

The issue that is difficult seems to be mentioning specific sources. If they are mentioned it appears to endorse them - something that TUK cannot possibly do.

Clearly, for those who can achieve it, local UK sourcing on prescription has a lot of positives.

Hi Rod,

Could you PM me that T3 source info please?

I need extra T3 as I've been taking a little more than prescribed (15mcg vs. 10mcg) so will run out ahead of my repeat prescription, I've been taking the extra 5mcg in the mornings to try to boost my energy levels, as I like to participate in many sports and have been struggling in this regard.

Thanks,

tdr.

Sorry on a names patient basis they do and with a private prescription. I have bought from them and if you look at about thyroid there is an article on there. Please get your facts right before send these types of mails.

Where do you get the 'named patient' private prescription from? Thank you for your sound advice

Hi Rod, here is how I got Forrest and Westroid Products from Tesco. It was on our main web site and I took it to tesco and they set up an account with the importer. thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

Sorry about sounding a bit dense but what is a 'private prescription' and how do u get one?

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toDelainy

A private prescription is simply one written by a doctor but not on an NHS prescription form. When dispensed, the pharmacy will charge whatever price they charge - it will not be 'free' even if you have a prescription exemption.

No not dense if yo have never done this before. If you see a non NHS Dr you phase to pay a fee.

Then the Dr usually is not allowed to dispense an NHS prescription and writes a private one. When you take it to the Chemist you pay the full fee or cost of the drug plus dispensing charges. Its these charges that Tesco can discount on or lets make it easier the profit on the drug. The nhs has a set scale of charges they levi on the drugs or the amount they will pay the chemist. A bit of a detailed reply but I hope you can understand this now.

Cheers

That's very interesting. I have inquired about WP thyroid price at Tollesbury today and I was told that bottle of 100 x 1/2 grain tablets would cost me £140 !! It cost me around £60 for the same amount of same tablet strength if I buy it from the Internet.

Hi Is that Tesco at Tollesbury you are referring to? May I asked if your internet price includes Vat and postage and the various post and customs charges that the Government in flicks on us. I cannot recall paying anything like that. I was being from Jersey with a private prescription but that was far too expensive and they use to repackage the pills to a little brown bottle and you really did not know where they were sourcing them from. I am on the wilson's temperature cycle at the moment and I have been informed I will go back on NDP my choice and that there is the specialist Pharmacy in London that can supply my medication with a prescription. Thanks for the information. John
