In an ideal world, everyone would get the exact thyroid medication that they need on prescription from their GP, endo. private practitioner etc. Whether that be for a short term trial, or for long term quality of life.

Unfortunately, in the UK at least, this all too often doesn't happen. We know that members of this community frequently end up resorting to obtaining their thyroid medications from non-prescription sources.

UK law does allow UK citizens to obtain medications without prescription, but only from sources outside of the UK. (If you are in the UK, you cannot legally source prescription meds from within the UK without a prescription).

Unfortunately, this creates opportunities for unscrupulous people to scam us. 💸

Scammers take your money, but never supply the medications you've ordered.

Or they may even send fake medications.

💊 If you are looking for a reliable source, you can write a post asking for recommendations from other members. Your post will be closed to replies by an admin, to comply with forum posting guideline:

The admin will emphasise in the closing post comment, that any recommendations MUST be sent to the poster by PM (private message / Chat) only. So sit back and wait for other members to contact you by message with their suggestions.

⚠️ IMPORTANT! When you receive a message with a recommendation, please do not assume it is genuine!

Scammers are joining the forum on a very regular basis and messaging members with their assertions that they have successfully purchased xyz medication from zyx source.

First, do check the profile of the member that sent you the message. (You can find their profile by searching for their name in the member list here healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... )

Are they a long term member with an active forum posting history? (Just be cautious and check with admin)

Or are they a recently joined member with little or no posting history? (Do be very suspicious and check with admin)

**** Scammers even join our forum and post a 'fake' story about their thyroid journey, that includes mention of self sourcing their thyroid meds. This is to encourage members to ask them where they purchase their medication without prescription.****

Once you have what you think may be a genuine recommendation, you are strongly encouraged to message an Admin to ask whether the admin team have any feedback on the source you've been given.

Admins are not allowed to recommend sources, but we can tell you what, if any, feedback we've received about the source you've been given.

I did received a couple of suggestions for a source of thyroid supplies without a prescription a month or so ago. The site was [edited by admin] I order just 500 of Thyroid s to test the water and paid. It was a scam so letting everyone else on here know too. Never received the goods, but also never expected to either. I could afford it but some people on here can't. so beware.

I know which site you are referring to, and can only say: if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. If a site offers NDT/T3 at much lower prices than other sites, you should be very careful. I cannot stress enough how important it is to contact one of the forum admins before placing an order. That saved me from losing money only a week or so ago. These sites also disappear and reappear under a new name, making it even harder to keep track of them.

It, in fact didn't sound to good to be true to me, but it could have done for some new purchasers of Thyroid s that's why I tried it out. These people are scum and there are plenty more where they came from too.

I have been scammed. Was sent a PM from a member who has now vanished off this site. It was a friendly message recommending this supplier from Montenegro. I fell for it and today they said I hadn't sent enough money for the third time and it dawned on me that it is a scam. They even got cross with me that I hadn't sent enough! I thought I wouldn't fall for a scam but here I am. They are professional scum so beware.... Thanks NHS for forcing me to go abroad to keep healthy, it is a diabolical situation they put us in.

Thank you RedApple. I actually got an email back from them saying they will send Thyroid S via normal post and without the tracking. Hmmm, I am not expecting it to arrive, with no tracking they won't send it.

Only time will tell. Sometimes they have fulfilled orders, sometimes they don't. If they are watching this forum (we know they are), they may send yours now that you've posted here.

Sadly no Thyroid S has been received from these scammers. Mine had a banking address in Montenegro.

Me too sadly, around the same time as you I think. They quite cunningly somehow managed to provide tracking which actually showed updates until it reached the UK, then seemed to have been returned. RM told me the tracking did not match my details and actually was connected to a person and address in NI, where I assume they have a contact, who is part of the whole scam. Action Fraud have no idea what to do, same with Police. I lost a significant amount of money that I simply cant afford to lose. These individuals are lowlifes who should be in prison.....it did amuse me though how, if you e mailed suggesting they may be scammers and you would report them if that turned out to be the case, they became abusive and eventually I was told 'we wont be replying to you again because you are abusive' in the neatest bit of projecting I've seen in many a long year. 😍.

If they are watching they should be aware certain people ARE onto them. All good things come to an end.

I am so sorry to hear that you got scammed as well. Well done for telling them you knew what they were doing. I haven't reported to Action Fraud so I shall do that tomorrow, I hadn't thought about it. One of a few reports of scams I have made that didn't get answered, I think they are overrun. Its horrid that this happens when we are in need of every penny, I felt it too and especially when I told them I was running out. I then did run out thanks to their lies and I went onto levothyroxine and T3 which showed me how horrid I felt before going onto NDT, I just felt so up and down with it and now back onto NDT I feel more level throughout the day. Lets hope they get caught. Best wishes

Oh so sorry...I know exactly what you mean...I almost ran out but unlike it seems, most others, I manage ok on Acella NP thyroid and have a genuine supplier in the US, though he is pricey. Like you things are now betteralthough the stress of the scam and other things combined set me back considerably. Btw, Action fraud will ask you for lots of 'evidence' by way of any communications you made with them and evidence of your payment, bank details etc. I idiotically used a money transfer service so had no recourse with my bank, though the transfer service people tried to get a chargeback for me and were super sympathetic...seems with these criminals, once the money lands, it is immediately transferred to another untraceable account. We live and learn.

What's worrying about this, is that these scammers may cause our right to purchase meds without prescription to be withdrawn altogether. A lose/lose situation that no-one wants. 😱

I agree it IS extremely concerning...banks have been making it difficult, I gather under pressure from pharmaceutical companies for years and it's only the smarter ones that've kept going...were buying online completely banned because of the increasing number of scammed folk I'd be finished. So thanks broken NHS for not giving a fig about us.....

Its the not knowing, I am just taking T3 now which was my Mum's, my NHS endocrinologist from another NHS Trust charges £75 prescription charge for levothyroxine. It is just a joke this thyroid prescribing. From now on I will stick to [name redacted]. I used to take Thiroyd which I found much better but we can't be fussy! Thanks for your help. Lou
