He reminded me there was only one UK supplier. If you are running low, get some now!

I am visiting Spain soon. Is it called cytomel or cynomel in Spain? Can you buy it over counter?

Thanks

Sandra

Having just been prescribed T3 I was keen to find a source for when my Hospital Pharmacy prescription runs out .

I asked at the Big High Street Chemist( not sure if I'm allowed to advertise?)

I was told No Problem as long as I give a few days notice and that they have several people that they order it for.......that's Liothyronine.

I suspect that pharmacist is simply unaware of the current shortage, no - unavailability, of Mercury Pharma liothyronine. It would be interesting to know which pharmacy and whether they are actually able to follow their words with deeds. Do let us know.

Rod....I have sent a message to you.....Marfit.

It's me again....have just seen you don't invite PMs.

The Pharmacy was at Boots The Chemist and I only enquired last Wednesday. When I was prescribed T3 I checked with my Endo about availability and was told there was no problem. He added that I can always take my prescription to the hospital pharmacy .

I will let you know how I get on. PS...I am on Mercury Pharma Liothyronine.

More than happy to take a PM when solicited - i.e. a direct response - but thanks for reading and respecting! :-)

Suspect few people were aware of the confirmed shortage:

I doubt the hospital pharmacy will have much stock so they too will have problems. Wishing you luck in getting it.

The problem is that Mercury Pharma are the only ones to have a Licenced T3, therefore doctors are reluctant to prescribe 'unlicenced' T3 of which there are a few.

I really do not understand why Mercury has run out of T3 twice in the last couple of months.

Doctors can also prescribe by giving you a 'named patient' prescription and this is a link and cursor down until you come to non UK T3.

You can get T3 made by Paddock.

If your pharmacist is unable to get it, I believe that your GP can prescribe Cynomel on a 'named patient basis'.The MHRA, I read the other day, says that the onus would be on the Pharmacist not the GP (I assume if you had a reaction)

This is a previous link re Cynomel.

Oh Dear .....all this uncertainty just when I had finally joined the T3 club!

I know I'm jumping ahead a bit but can I have some thoughts on how long a period you would normally wait before increasing dosage if needing to.

I don't see my Endo now for four months and will be getting an FT4 test beforehand, but just have the feeling that four months will seem a long time to remain on 10mcgs T3. if all goes well I can anticipate wanting to ask to increase to 20mcgs .At the moment I'm on 75 Levo to go with the 10mcgs T3.I can feel a slight improvement already in muscle pain but don't envisage that it will be enough long term.

I would welcome any input.X

Cytomel is the brand name of the product from Pfizer (formerly King) in the USA. I am not aware of that brand name being used anywhere else legitimately. Indeed, am not aware of the product being generally available in Europe at all.

Cynomel is the brand name used by two companies - Sanofi in Europe (France) and Grossman in Mexico. They are both liothyronine (T3) but are differently formulated products.

Other European brands include Thybon Henning in Germany and TiTre in Italy.

I know nothing of Spain.

Thanks for posting - I'm not sure how up to date this website is. They are still saying that it will be 'FREE - during Beta period until our official Launch Date during later part of 2011'

I order my T3 from a supplier in Cyprus so I never have to worry about shortages. They buy it over the counter. It takes 4-5 days for it to arrive. I pay by bank transfer and am glad I do as I read on another post visa plan on stopping card sales to online pharmacies abroad.
