That's the idea, take levothyroxine and be restored to euthyroid state. Unfortunately, many GPs and endocrinologists use the TSH to determine euthyroid and inform you that your TSH is ok so your symptoms can't possibly be thyroid related.

In reality, it takes time to achieve an optimal dose of levothyroxine and although the majority of people do okay, 10-20% of patients do not, possibly because they are not sufficiently medicated, not converting T4 to T3 in the liver, are unable to tolerate T4 or are so vitamin and mineral depleted they're unable to absorb and use thyroxine optimally.

If you want to tell us when you had your TT, your symptoms, what meds and supplements you are on and the results of recent blood tests with lab ref ranges we'll try to help.

Thank you for your reply ,I had my thyroid removed about 15 months ago ,it was very traumatic ,my windpipe collapsed and I had to have a tracheotomy ,then my throat burst open 4times ,I didn't sleep for nights and I couldn't eat I was very sick ,my calcium went down to virtually nothing ,I had to get calcium injections ,I suffer from a lot of flash backs there was a lot of neglect for years and a lot of neglect in hospital ,although I also had very good people around me as well ,I'm just so tired I've put on a massive amount of weight ,I was no light weight before ,but now I'm huge ,I dont know whether I'm just scared about what's happened or what I'm just tired I'm 52and going through the change as well so I have a lot going on ,I dont understand the blood tests but they say my thyroxin levels are fine ,they forgot to put me on the thyroid register until I asked them how will I know when to come back for bloods ,!!!! Its been neglect all the way I'm afraid thanks for reading this

What a horrible horrible experience. Unfortunately for an awful lot of us the medical care we get is not great and we have to be our own Healers. The first GP I had just ignored my list of symptoms and said "your results are in range, isnt it great that you are fine now". If you post up all your results with ranges-as Clutter suggested- people will reply and help you with suggestions. If you don't have copies of your results ask the receptionists at the surgery for copies. I have found fantastic support and help on this site.

You have really had a bad experience and it is no wonder you feel so bad. Have you had counselling for the flashbacks? Not CBT or just talking, but trauma counselling? There is an approach called EMDR (can't remember what initials stand for) that treats trauma. Getting help with flashbacks and fear would be a good beginning. I am NOT saying this is depression and don't allow your doctor to suggest it.

I really feel for you. I too had a bad experience but nothing like yours. The flashbacks are horrible and as others have said it would help to talk to somebody about them. It is hard when you feel so unwell but being on this site is a good start. The people on here really helped me to understand bloods results, vitamins etc. and I found you really need to read and learn as much as you can. I found keeping a diary of symptoms and correlating them to dosage and bold results a help when discussing things with doctors. When very unwell I took somebody to appointments with me to help fight my cause and just remember what was said as I often couldn't. It is important to get to know the ranges which are right for you, particularly if you have a calcium problem - I am very symptomatic if my calcium drops below 2.2 but still in range. Really hope things improve for you.
