If so, what is your experience of this ?

I am on both these..as well as Estrogen only HRT ....

I have had to drastically reduce my thyroid dose to very little...

It seems crazy ..

Anyone else in THIS position ?

I have read and highlighted sections in this book by Dr Bond

...a little remark by Dr Bone has give me great hope in the otherwise never ending quest to get well...

That is..that if on Progesterone you will ..

PROBABLY NEED TO REDUCE OR EVEN STOP TAKING YOUR THYROID TABLETS ..PAGE 102

My symptoms have been rapidly improving ..APART FROM SLEEP..WHICH I CAN ONLY THINKE IS BECAUSE IM HYPER...WHICH IS WHY Ive KEPT CUTTING DOWN.

But it’s a bit worrying and goes against the grain. So ...

ANYONE ELSE IN THIS POSITION ?

I use bio-identical progesterone cream, have done for over 2 years, no oestrogen or HRT. It's not done anything at all regarding my thyroid meds, I still need the same amount.

Isn’t it odd !

The book by Dr Vond is certainly interesting and has helped me just a little but it’s amounted to a lot

She suggests that many diagnoses of hypo could in fact have been low prog resulting in low TSH leading to the diagnosis

Anyway almost one month on and reduced thyroid from 2.25 grains to half a grain this morning( in an attempt to sleep) but I feel SO MUCH BETTER OVERALL ! Will it last ?? No idea but riding on the thought !

This is so interesting! My TSH is 0.01. I’m on 100mcg Levo. Besides changing brand and an increase of 25mcg from 75mcg, I had a Mirena inserted. If I recall correctly, this had progesterone. Now I wonder.

I have been on natural progesterone cream and NDT (after one horrible year on synthroid before I discovered NDT) for almost twenty years now and have had insomnia in particular alleviated. When our adrenals are stressed they will 'swipe' hormones from everywhere including estrogen/progesterone. It is weird that you are having to cut back on your NDT and I have no explanation but.... . If I were you, I would probably try to do a 4 part cortisol saliva test to make sure my adrenals are okay. Also check your vitamin levels... D 3 and B 12 and iron.

Stressed adrenals and low iron in particular can make dosing of NDT problematic at times.

Actually Phoenix..it’s isnt weird I’d you take note of the quote I put out from Dr Bonds. Ok on NATURAL PROGESTERONE...

SHE SAYS YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO CUT BAXK OR ALTOGETHER CUT OUT YOUR THYROID MEDS ! Yes really...that’s what she said...it’s all I have to go on...it IS early days for me..about three weeks of cutting back..because of extreme Insomnia I felt forced to...it seemed like I was constantly. Hyper just a bit...surely..after three weeks of this severe cutting back...wouldn’t I feel just a bit hypo if it wasn’t right !

Not a question...a rhetorical one !

Nobody knows our body and how we feel better than us. It may take a while for everything to start settling down for you. I believe also that we have instincts about what is right for us and it may be contrary to what someone else says we should do. As long as it doesn't put us at risk or in real danger... might be worth a shot.

After you have been on a steady dose ( or no dose of NDT) of NDT for 4 - 5 weeks, might be time to get some thyroid labs done to see what is going on, even if you have to do it privately if your doc refuses to test.

Good luck treating the insomnia. 'bout drove me crazy. Before I stumbled on the progesterone cream, I got partially good results by taking melatonin tablets. The tablets were melatonin only...no Vit C or B 6 etc added ... and I chewed them and let them dissolve in my mouth. I say partial because the melatonin was excellent getting me drowsy and falling asleep but I often had to take more melatonin 2 - 3 am in the morning. Just didn't keep me asleep sometimes.

Thanks for this Phoenix..and thanks for the thought about lab test ..yes..I must do that in a bit if things stay stable, as you say.

I THINK my insomnia must be Hyperism but there ..we’ll see.

The doc gave me Melatonin a while baxk..absolutely ghastly for me..CIRCADIN ...NOW I DONT KNOW THE ONE YOU REFER TO...WHAT IS IT CALLED..I COULD TRY IT...PRESCRIPTION ONLY ALL OF IT I BELIEVE ..LET ME KNOW NAME..

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT..I DO BELIEVE SOMETHING WONDERFUL IS GOING ON....68 and still not well ?!

This product is on Amazon. UK and looks like a good product. I couldn't see the reverse of the label in order to see the ingredients but someone asked and the ingredients look okay but a little pricey compared to prices here in the states. But it is tablets and seems the active ingredient is melatonin only !!! But only 1 mg.... so take up to three tablets and chew/let dissolve.

Here is a good product here in the states from Iherb, a vitamin company. I have heard others here in the UK mention ordering/buying stuff from Iherb (iherb) so I know they ship overseas.

I have never had a reaction to using melatonin??? But never had it on a prescription either. :)

ps...forgot. The reason I suggested checking adrenals is because high cortisol at night can sure keep you from sleeping. Our highest cortisol is supposed to be produced in the am, before noon. Then it slowly drops during the day, dropping to it's lowest level at bedtime/before dawn. So, if none of this works for your insomnia, it might be time to check adrenals, my friend.
