I wouldnt say my thyroid gland is really noticably large but i think it looks larger as im slim with a slim neck...

After 9 years of stable thyroid levels with a tsh below 1 and a ft4 top of range, all of a sudden a year and a half ago levels went haywire with a high tsh and still highish ft4, low to mid ft3...

Im seeinng my 3rd endo on the 1st of may and was wondering whether they would suggest taking it out!..

Iv got a horrible feeling that if it was taken out i would gain lots of weight, iv always been slim which is a typical for hypos!!

Don’t know, my sister in law had her thyroid removed over forty years ago - she had thyroid cancer - she was slim before it and didn’t put on any weight. She has always been very sporty and active. So it looks like some people do and some don’t. Don’t know how you can predict.

When it's pressing on your windpipe and obstructing your breathing.

Or when you have Hashi's and your endo is ignorant and thinks it will be easier for him to monitor your hypo if you have your thyroid removed! :(

Dont think its pressing on my windpipe, i do get breathless but putting that down to being undermedicated at the minute...

I have hashi as i have very slightly elevated antibodies by about 8 points...

I hope this new endo isnt lazy!! And looks more into things for me..

Even if he is lazy, and wants to remove your thyroid, you don't have to agree! :)

Thats true, i dont think i would agree to it...

But then if i didnt agree would they discharge me!..

I'm afraid I don't know about that. But, nobody can force you to do anything you don't want to. And, you could always ask for a second opinion. :)

I’m hyper and RAI was always be8ng mentioned as the alternative treatment should I relapse after my block and replace. I eventually spoke to my GP and explained that I wanted to go back onto B&R because I did well on it while I was taking it and should I relapse and they wanted to do RAI could they a) refuse to give me another round of B&R or b) refuse to treat me and she said no to both. It’s hard to know what they would say though. Let’s hope your latest endo is good and it doesn’t come to that.
