Hi there

Your vitamin D and your Ferritin are too low. Ferritin needs to be about 100 and vit D about 80 for your thyroid meds to work properly. You might be struggling to convert T4 to T3 because your T3 is lower in the range in comparison to your T4. Most of us feel better with a T3 at the top of the range. Here's a good article about what stops your thyroid meds from working tpauk.com/main/?page_id=1599

You need to ask your endo to also test your B12, Folate, serum iron, electrolytes and ideally your minerals inc zinc. You need to start supplementing with Vitamin D and iron - for the latter I prefer Ferroglobin liquid, spatone, floradix (all available in boots or holland and barratt) or American products Blue Bonnet Chelated Iron 27mg and Proferrin.

Hope that helps,

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for reply. Also many thanks for the link attached, will read tonight when kids in bed! I could see my Vit D was very low just by looking at the range. I had my B12 tested last year which was 382 (200-900) my GP said was normal no action. I will have a look in Holland and Barratt for the supplements. I haven't heard of electrolytes, is that another vitamin?

Do you think my endo would see there is a conversion problem? This will be my second appointment with her, as she requested these new bloods as last ones were quite old being May 2013.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi there

I reckon your endo will tell you all is fine. Your B12 is way too low, it needs to be right over the top of the range at around 1,000. Get some methyl B12 lozenges - Jarrow or Solgar, and take at least 1,000mcg a day, even 5,000mcg -it's not toxic at high doses. You need to get that right up. There's an excellent book called 'Could it be the B12?' which explains why our current B12 ranges are a nonsense. Lots of old folks rotting in old folks homes being told they have dementia when they just have low B12, an essential vitamin. You could also do with a good quality B complex (Solaray B100 is a good one) and a good multimineral - I like Blue Bonnet Chelated minerals. Electrolytes are trace elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium. These are also essential - you can get all kinds of weird and wacky symptoms if these are out of balance - can mimic hyper, weird beaty heart, adrenal, and anxious symptoms, horrible water retention etc. I get super sweaty doing the slightest thing (hoovering will have me dripping in sweat) if mine are wonky and if I take a bit of unprocessed sea salt and a potassium pill (or lemon juice in water with cream of tartar) I feel better. You get to know your symptoms .... but in your case, Vit D, iron and B12 should make a very big difference to how you feel and how you convert your thyroid.

Hope that helps

Rebecca
