I have just been diagnosed with positional vertigo & have to do Brandt Daroff Exercises (Horrible). Does anyone else have this and do the exercises help?
A bit about me: Hemithyroidectomy 2007, low in range thyroid tests, no treatment, lots of symptoms.

I have suffered with vertigo and motion sickness all my life.
Dizziness can be a sign of being under medicated, low iron or low B12. I also suffer with vertigo if I am over medicate. Now I have corrected all my low vitamins (iron, ferritin and Vitd) and my thyroid levels are right for me my dizzy spells are almost non existent.
No I never did try the exercises, but can imagine them being pretty horrendous, do you take stemitil at all? cos if you do I would be tempted to take one before doing the exercises, just to take the edge of the worse of the vertigo.
When I was undermedicated I had vertigo. It's gone now, thankfully.
I have a friend who had benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and who did the exercises. He found it worked and now doesn't have a problem. So the answer to your question, even if it is second hand, is yes.
He recommended me to try them when I had vertigo but I couldn't do them, but mine was for a different reason - neurologist said migraine, but I now realise it happens when I'm overmedicated.

That is what the nhs tells anyone with vertigo.
I had it really badly for well over a year -it disappeared completely once i correctly self diagnosed and treated pernicious anaemia and switched from levo to ndt
I have migraine, too, tin-lizzy and the dizziness is always worse then. I also have tinnitus & I get lound ringing esp. in the right ear & I go off balance quite a bit. I told my doctor & the specialist all this.
Had a quick look at the Dana.org thing, Moggie. Very interesting. My vision, I know is terrible. I have prisms in both lenses for double vision. Have permanent migraine aura, & lots of eye floaters.
Postural hypotension: Again I put my hand up to this: my blood pressure a low: about 100/60 & goes down on standing. Can go quite spacey on standing.
Irregular heartbearts: I get those too, though doesn't show on ecg. Again more during a migraine attack, or if I get very cold.
I did start the exercises this morning & they did make me dizzy. Early days, will persevere.
PS: Have never been offered Stemitil, or anything else for the dizziness - I expect it comes with side effects.
You have my sympathy, it is a horrible feeling. Having low blood pressure won't help trying to do the exercises. It might be worth looking at Digby's suggestion of the Epley Manoeuvre - I saw on a website that this was maybe more effective than the Brandt Daroff exercises. I think both are designed to retrain the balance system and are used with different kinds of vertigo.
I have had the same thing on and off for 4/5 years. Last year I had it for the whole month of February. On 15th Feb this I got it again and still have it. I was told about the Epley manoeuvre and do this everything morning. You do need someone beside you to help you sit up as you may well feel dizzy. At the sitting up stage it is all over and you will feel great again. If not just repeat it again. Google EPLEY MANOUVER. I would not be without it. I have just been referred to ENT consultant as I also have tinnitus. Hope this helps. Digby.
The specialist did this test on me & identified the right side causing problems. It looks a bit more awkward to do at home - maybe that's why they give you the other exercise to do. I've got to have a scan of the inner ear sometime.
I feel for you having it for a whole month - the most I have had it is a couple of days and that was bad enough.
