Another way to check if you have Hypothyroidism ? (CK) Creatine Kinase has an inverse relationship to T3.

Hubby had blood tests done as he had aching weakened muscles, cramps and tiredness.

We are suspecting Hubby's symptoms might be linked to hypothyroidism, but not 100% sure.

The Creatine Kinase blood test stated 'Abnormal', Rhumy said the CK test wasn't nothing to worry about as only slightly raised and after a physical check on Hubby said nothing was wrong with Hubby, muscles OK and said Thyroid test was 'Negative' (though Hubby still has weakened muscles, cramps, tiredness and sometimes shivery.)

I Googled CK (Creatine Kinase) and found a link to T3.

Apparently there is an inverse relation in the serum levels of T3 and CK in thyroid disease.

(So a raised CK could show a lowered T3 and point to Hypothyroidism.)

I pointed this out to Hubby's Doctor who listened :) Hubby has now been tested for both T3 and Vitamin D :)

Cheryl3245 did a posting on this subject 'CREATINE KINASE' many months ago.

Another Thyroid UK member said her Doctor had to apologize to her as he didn't know there was a connection with CK and Hypothyroidism. how many others don't either ?

So if you have the weakened muscles symptoms and suspect you might have Hypothyroidism/Fibromyalgia/Cronic Fatigue syndrome or ME it might be an idea along with other bloods done to ask for a Creatine Kinase blood test and see if it comes back 'Abnormal,' (remembering to get a printout of your blood results and their ranges.)

Good post, Coastwalker. When does Hubby get his results?

Tuesday 18th. Not sure if we are on the right track, only grasping at straws as many of us on here are :)

If not we'll try plan B, a good dose of B12 ;)

Rheumy said CK was only slightly raised so he was not concerned, but he did not connect CK with T3 as I asked him about it being a thyroid problem. He said thyroid result was 'NEGATIVE' and said it in a very negative way, well it was actually stated as 'NORMAL', so he didn't get that one right. ;)
