you should not need to take calcium, what I mean is: if you are a 'normal' person (I know you're hypothyroid) then you do not need calcium supplements, even with NO dairy products in your diet.

it is a common 'misconception' that you 'need' dairy products, this is inaccurate, in dairy products you have far too much calcium and not enough magnesium, the balance is 'out of whack'

see: (look under 'disadvantages of eating dairy')

Hi Please do not take calcium without a blood test and another one 4 months later. calcium ( corrected) must always be in range, very dangerous as an electrolyte. have a vit D test, hopefully GP or through the site TUK, then if low, have a calcium test and treatment from Endo best or GP , script. repeat test on both. Vit D effects the Calcium strongly, usually makes it higher. D is important but if calcium goes over range, it must be stopped immediately Then if so , you need a PTH ( parathyroid) test done with the other 2 Again, must be am, To see if you need a nuclear scan for PTH. Have re tests of both, ideally every 6 months on treatment. At 4 months it is to check the levels, then 6 months subsequently if Ok.

My oncologist has ok'd the calcium and vit d as long as it 4 hours after my Levo. My levels were lower than my last test so I'm now alternating Levo 150mcg then 175mcg to see if I feel any better. Next appt is 3 months :)
