Hi Are you taking either? It is too high. Ideally if having a ferritin?iron test best to get them to write on the from additional to have absorption % too. However you are obviously absorbing them. I would send the results to your Endo, with ranges ,pronto.

In the meantime, you need LFT`s ( liver function) , electrolytes, magnesium and corrected calcium, both separate tests and Potassium and sodium , they are in U`s and E`s ( kidney function ). Above all ask fro a Hb1Ac test, the best test for type 1 or 2 diabetes, autoimmune and hormonal if type 2 goes with thyroid disease and high iron and B12.

Please do not leave it but do something quickly.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi. With those high serum ferritin levels I would suggest you ask for an HFE test as well. This will give an indication as to why your levels are high.

High b12 is not really a problem.

Tsh over 1 and certainly over 4 means you are hypothyroid Ann at risk of other problems.

Are you on thyroid meds? If so not enough.

the high ferritin could be caused by inflammation somewhere, specially as the other iron is not so good.

Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies ( hashimotos). Its a possibility....

B-12 lab test: Measures an essential vitamin, B12, which can be low in hypothyroid patients due to low stomach acid. You are looking for an optimal B12 lab result at the top of the range. It is NOT optimal to simply be “in range”. If your range is similar to 180-900, a healthy level is 800 or higher. In the 500-800 range, you can benefit from taking B12 lozenges, specifically Methylcobalamin. It has been shown in studies that patients with labs under 350 are likely to have symptoms, which means the deficiency is very serious and has gone on for a few years undetected. Lab ranges are much too low for B12…in Japan the bottom of the range is 500. The urine test Urinary Methylmalonic Acid, also called the UMMA, can be added since it is a very sensitive detection and if high, will reveal a true B12 deficiency.

FERRITIN test: Measures your levels of storage iron, which can be chronically low in hypothyroid patients. If your Ferritin result is less than 50, your levels are too low and can be causing problems…as well as leading you into anemia as you fall lower, which will give you symptoms similar to hypo, such as depression, achiness, fatigue. If you are lower than the 50′s, you are scooting by. Optimally, females shoot for 70-90 at the minimum (Janie’s is 80 when her iron is good); men tend to be above 100 and optimally close to the 130′s. If your ferritin is much higher, you have INFLAMMATION–the latter causes iron to be thrust into storage and inflammation is common with thyroid patients for a variety of reasons. In less common cases, higher ferritin can be from liver disease, alcoholism, diabetes, asthma, or some types of cancer. Men are generally higher than women without having the above problems. If ferritin is high along with a high % Sat and Serum iron, you may have hemachromatosis or a MTHFR defect. You should be off all iron for at least 12 hours before testing to see what your body is hanging onto, and 5 days to see your true iron levels.

Thank you all for this information and advice. There are also tests with normal results including inflamaion marker :. ESR - 2 (2-15),

FBC -all normal ,

differential white cell count all normal,

sérum C réactive protien level 1 (0 - 5) ,

sérum folate ok,

sérum iron level 16.9 (10 - 30) , serum transferrin 2.5 (2 - 3.6) sérum free T 4 13.1 (12 - 22)

There is à lot of info in your answers which I need to digest. Any comments on the additional 'normal' test results are very welcome. I have à headache, feel sick all the time, and am short of breath and weak when walking on an incline.
