Cost of Armour and best place to get it.

Hi I have been given a private prescription by my Endo (in the UK) for armour thyroid. I took it to the local chemist and they quoted me £268 for 3 months supply. Does this sound right? I was under the impression that it would be quite a bit cheaper. Does anyone know of somewhere else that I can get it for less?

I was under the impression it was £1 a pill. I got. 500 from my gp and I believe the chemist said it was £500 worth!

Thanks. I am now enquiring as to whether my GP will prescribe them on NHS.

Hi there, I am trying to get my NatureThroid prescribed on the NHS but my NHS trust wants to know of others who are allowing it to be prescribed. Please could you let me know what your trust is/ where you live?

Thanks! :-)

Hi guys is there anything equivalent to armour that is cheaper?

Hi there

Not sure whether it's cheaper but I get 100 1 grain and 100 0.5 grain Naturethroid from a pharmacy on the Thyroid UK website for 110 quid.

The pharmacist asked me to get my 3 month prescription changed to 100 at a time as it comes in ibottles of 100. It may be worth asking size of a standard bottle when getting your prescription.

Not sure whether I'm allowed to mention which Pharmacy (I think there is two on the thyroid UK website) but if you think of white stilettos it may give you a hint :-)

You can buy levothyroxine thyroid here without a previous prescription (the online consultation is easy) goodrxtabs.com

Thyroid UK doesn't have pharmacies - but they do have a list of some especially helpful pharmacies:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

Armour Thyroid is considerably more expensive than any other desiccated thyroid product (assuming similar supplier).

Hi

Have you tried any of these:

Can't you buy direct from Canada if you have a prescription? ( Erfa)

jill258 profile image
jill258 in reply togalathea

tI don't know. I feel at a loss. I have had no guidance from my Endo as to where to get them or that they are even available on NHS if your Gp is willing to prescribe them.

I used Pharmarama and it was much cheaper than that. How much have you been prescribed - it is usually cheaper to get the bigger tablets and cut them up if necessary? From memory 1/2 grain tablets were about 30p. I now get my Armour on an NHS prescription from my GP, so I am very lucky that it is free :) xx

You are very lucky, my Endo here in the UK has refused me T3 and now I have just ordered them from Mexico, £41 for 3 months supply so I guess not too bad, but I should not have had to pay at all. :(

could you give me info on where you ordered them from? Really struggling to find them

Hello moonbeam I wonder if you would be so kind as to give me all the details of the Mexican cite so I can get some please sorry it’s late hope this won’t disturb you thanks kowbie

I have been prescribed 2 grain size. My GP stated that she couldn't prescribe it as it would have to come from USA and take ages . The local pharmacy told me they could order it one day and get it the next. Anyway I have ordered it now from a Pharmacy that Thyroid Uk had on their site, it is in the UK and don't charge for postage at £63 for 90 a better option .

Your GP seems unaware that specialist importers maintain some stock in the UK ready to be sent to pharmacies as needed.

Clarebear in reply tojill258

My GP prescribes it and I take it to the next door chemist who keeps some supplies and has to order the rest in - usually takes a couple of days.

Sounds like you have found a competitively priced supplier though :)

Good luck and hope it helps you like it has me ;) xx

Can you pls let me know which area GP it is. I have been constantly asking my GP to prescribe me Armour and they have refused stating its not under NHS policy and if I want I have to go private. Can any help me on here what is the actual policy because I still have thyroid symptoms even on levothyroxine. I am frustrated.

I got mine on private prescription that my endo gave me. My gp wanted nothing to do with it.

Hi Clarebear, which NHS trust do you live in? My one is considering my request for a prescription (I've been buying online myself for over a year) but they want to know what other NHS Trusts allow prescriptions. Please could you let me know what trust you're in / where you live? Thanks so much, :-)

Hi I use Springfield , by post and phone. They are in London, sell vast quantities of armour and erfa. I have used them for many years, tried everywhere else, always much the cheapest, varies slightly with exchange rate, USA, Erfa Canada. Dedicated phone line, 10amd to noon, Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. 020 8255 8096. Gp will not prescribe it.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jackie, responding to your post ( from 5 years ago ! ) lol..just after some info, as like many others, impossible to get an NHS script for any NDT. Did you get your tablets from Springfield without a prescription ? Am desperate to source some. :o( Many thanks, Sue x

Hi! I buy mine online at an American pharmacy. International Pharmacy I think it's called. Works out at 170pounds for 50 days supply!

Hi Pettals

All of the above need a prescription. :)

The one you are talking about does not! :)

Therefore, have deleted your comment....

Hi, i buy mine online with no prescription. I really begrudge this if i'm honest. The last lot i bought were approx £70 for 3 months supply, then i had to pay import VAT on top. If your order is less than £15 you don't have to pay this. The whole thing stinks. We need more alternatives to levo and it should be at an affordable price for all concerned. X

Thank you all for your comments. I have gone through one of the pharmacies that Thyroid UK have on their site. I will look into it a bit more, if the 3 month trial works for me and I need more.

HI Jill, yes, I actually phoned them in the end because it didn't look like my order had gone through, they took payment over the phone. I posted out prescription and received tablets the day after they received prescription x

hi if this is for underactive thyroid why are they not free on prescription

jill258 profile image
jill258 in reply tocheryl3245

They aren't registered in this country , so usually GPS won't prescribe on the NHS. Usually get them with a private prescription, then have to pay.

LittleLauren84 profile image

T4 doesn't work for everyone unfortunately!

are there any plants for Armour to be registered in this country do you know?

Did you all go on NDT with your GP/Endo's advice or decide to just switch yourself?

I'm so tired all the time on 150mg levo, my gp won't refer me to an endo to test all my levels so i just hear ''oh you are in normal range so you're fine''
