I have a lot of trouble with focusing my eyes I thought it was due to ME but I have just seen a top man eye specialist seems to think it could be the thyroid causing the muscle to swell

Behind the eye ,

I have been on thyroxine for 30 years and I am on 125 mg level is okey but I have restless legs ,Fibro and my ferritin level is only 9 I have started iron tablets but I have diverticulitis and they make me constipated any ideas on that front would be welcome !!!

I have a MRI scan next Friday on the eyes x

Take a look at nelsonsnaturalworld.com/en-... Or similar liquid ones.

This should not make you constipated and with Vit C is better absorbed.

Get a print out of your T4 T3 and TSH thyroid blood test results.

Post them on here with the reference ranges or study them yourself.

TSH should be low

T4 and T3 at top end of your Laboratories reference range.

It is so good that you are having the scan it will quickly show what is happening with the fat and muscle at the back of the eyes rather than wasting time whilst Doctors guess at what is happening.

All the best. wyn

I've had eye problems on and off over the years. I had serious difficulty focusing when I first went on thyroxine, which have settled down now. I think it's quite a common problem.

There is NO SUCH THING as ME and whoever has told you that is making excuses for the fact that they KNOW you have thyroid problems but can't be bothered to spend the time and effort required to treat you properly - ie, T3, natural dessicated thyroid and other vitamin/ mineral supplements.

I've been ill for 37 years - and it isn't a coincidence that the symptoms of ME are the same as thyroid/endocrine problems.

I think unless you are medically qualified, I think it's wrong to say that there is NO SUCH THING as ME. Of course if that is just your opinion, that's ok.

However, I do agree that it is easy for many physicians to throw a name at anything simply because they cannot diagnose easily. Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism sufferers know only too well how that goes.

In my own opinion, I do believe the ME exists and I also think that it is either the root cause of other conditions and illnesses or the other way around....chicken or egg spring to mind...but that is my opinion.

Sugarplum, with regards to the constipation, I find Psyllium husk to the be the best. It kind of makes the your poop jelly like...do drink plenty of water afterwards though.

I too have focal problems and my eye sight seems to get worse every year.

Good luck with the MRI.

It sounds like he thinks you have TED (thyroid eye disease) this is an entirely different condition to your thyroid condition and can occur in people who have novthyroid issues! It used to be called graves eye disease because it is caused by the same auto immune antibody that causes graves disease. The antibodies attack the muscles and fat around your eyes causing it to swell which can result in blurred vision, double vision and difficulty focusing. The swelling can also squash the optic nerve which is what the MRI will be checking. TED goes throughsstages - active through to stable and can be mild through to extreme and is very individual. You may need treatment with eye drops containing beta blockers (to reduce the pressure in the eye) or immunosuppressants. You are lucky someone is checking early its nice to know you are getting good care.

I have found Spatone to be a good iron supplement without the constipation issues.

Yes, same here, and no nausea, which I often get with tablets. If your iron is very low you can take two Spatone sachets.

I had eye problem in the past. My eye were burning so much from tiredness I could not stay on the computer for more then 3 hours. At that time my thyroid was slowing down. I have been an amateur photographer for several years so to me that was very upsetting. Has anyone had similar problem?

I have had nine of twelve weekly Predsnidone IV injections for my TED but so far my eyes have got worse, most days I can hardly focus, am sensitive to the light, double vision, blurring, etc my eyes are bulging especially the left one and I feel so bad I just dont want to leave the house,I am unable to go to work. I am due to have an MRI scan on Saturday and then a follow up appointment with an Oncologist to discuss Radio Therapy ,I mentioned to the eye consultant that maybe the steroids were not working because the Levo meds might be wrong, but after bloods I got the usual 'normal' result, the one and only time I have seen an Endo was at the begining of 2011 when I was told I was overactive and should get my Thyroid 'zapped' with RAI which I did at the end of 2011 and have been on 50mcg of Levo ever since, I'v only ever seen the GP in those two years (always with the 'normal' results) this eye problem only started Dec 2012 .Has anyone please got any ideas as to why this eye problem is getting worse is there something else I can do to help myself.??
