have found these articles and found them very interesting. Don't know if what is written is right but if it is pregnenalone seem to be a very important and ignored hormone.

Thanks for that! I take oral pregnenolone on the advice of a private dr. I may try a dermal version now though!

How much do you take? I had already bought 100mg but hen read that you should take a lot smaller doses so got scared and didn't take. After reading this yesterday I took 1 capsule and I think it made a difference( I never know if I imagine it though). I take 125 mcg thyroxine and 1 grain Armour. Started armour 1 week ago and feel worse!!!!. I have been trying to find out why and had a feeling it is due to cortisol and aldosterone. Have been taking NAX with absolutely no effect. I think I would be happier to take pregnenalone than hydro cortison.

Roslin - you say you've been taking NAX with no effect - would you let me know how long you've been on it? I've been on it for months without being aware of any improvement, either. But I don't know anyone else who's tried it or whether it may take a very long time to do its job.

Hi Ransom

I started taking Isocort and it did nothing and then swapped to NAX (8/day) which had no effect either. I then found adrenal cortex drops (really expensive from US)

I took NAX for 2 1/2 months. The drops have initially increased heart rate but has done nothing for energy.

Hhhmm. Had you had a cortisol check before you went on the Isocort? Thanks -

Yes, It showed below range cortisol particularly first thing and low DHEA

Pregnenolone on the other hand seem to do something.

Well, now I'm learning something new - I just looked Pregnenolone up online and came across a list of symptoms of pregneneolone deficiency which describe me very well! It seems to be pretty safe to take too. Do you take it as a supplement or dermal?

No, I had already bought some before I learnt that transdermal probably is better. The interesting thing is that if it isn't needed you will not feel an effect and it will not be used. So far I have seen an improvement but it is not perfect. I need to also seriously address glucose levels and IBS symptoms. Where did you read about pregenolone?

I did a brief websearch and the first one I looked at was called: Pregnenolone; what it is and how it works - Women Living.

The description of symptoms was on target. I realize that other things can also cause these symptoms, but I'm interested anyway. On the glucose issue - have you had any tests yet?

I havent yet grasped the issue of glucose and cortisol. I understand that high cortisol is connected to low glucose( don't know the mechanism) but what I don't understand is why I have ups and downs and crave sugar when my cortisol is generally low. Other than cutting out sugar and refined carbs is there anything else I should do? Can you in fact get my glucose under control when my cortisol is abnormal? I have had a glucose test but it wasn't fasting, didn't know I was going to have one and it was high normal. I aam going to ask for a new test in the next few weeks

I have personally experienced rapid heartbeat as a result of using oral pregnenelone,it is not well documented, but appears to break down in the liver to a substance not unlike benzodiazipines. Transdermal is undoubtedly the way to go, or the micronised lipid matrix (MLM) type to avoid first-pass metabolising by the liver (not easy to get here, and expensive).

That forum is a the leading edge of a number of radical idea about managing hormones, but because of that, and also like every forum stuff you read needs a lot of double checking before rushing off on one new idea or another!

I realised that the forum might be aimed towards men using perhaps anabolic steroid and such but if the explanation there regarding thyroxine and cortisol is right, it is the first time that it has made sense to me. It seems like he has based some of the ideas from Dr Herthohg. I had already bought some pregnenolone so I had some at home but it is not MLM. I have take 100 mg 2 days now and these 2 days I have not been completely wiped out as usual and my temp has also been higher than it has been for a long long time(0.3 degrees). I am still worried about taking it but I am desperate to feel better. I have not felt a sedating effect or had rapid heart beat and I was hoping it would boost cortisol and progesterone. Do you think taking hydrocortisone would be a safer choice.

Oh no, DEFINITELY no steroid use or talk there at all, quite the opposite, it is run by a Doctor, and such things are forbidden, only advice for those who have wrecked them selves with steroids and who are off them and trying to fix themselves!

Join up and ask.. you would not be the first woman to be a member, and generally you will get a fair reply, although specifically women's matters are not the area of expertise!

It seems that not every one gets this side effect with pregnenelone, although I certainly did :-(

I started with Hydrocortisone long before the protocol for large dosing with Preg was suggested (and even now that method has not had many full-time takers!), and seeing as I had such good results with no problems, I have not strayed away from that, but even so, there are a lot that recommend "topping up" pregnenelone in smaller doses as a part of wide scale hormone management, just I had such poor results with standard oral preg, I have never done this. (As background, I have Hypogonadism, (due to using opiate pain killers for years) which many of the forum participants have and it was very helpful in getting some of the advice I was so missing from my totally useless Endocrinologist!

Hertoghe's patients are among regular contributors there, but most are mainly US based, who follow a few different Doctors, most specifically the owner of the forum, Dr John Crisler.

If you get benefits from the preg, without ill effects, then I would change nothing, however, be aware (and we all suffer it!) that the placebo effect can be there too! ;-)

Good luck

Could you possibly PM regarding what it is you are taking please? Is it for low adrenals? I am desperately trying to decide what, if anything, to take to boost mine without resorting to HC. I dont want my Armour trial to fail due to low adrenals and as we have discussed before I would eventually like to end up on Armour only.

P.s I also feel worse after adding my half grain to my levo.
